It is the 75th Anniversary of Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons and there is a full calendar to keep us busy. Check out all the details in this Scuttlebutt of the events and dates and look for more events and updates in your spring Scuttlebutt. Here are some of the 75 th Anniversary events: Our AGM/Graduation, and District AGM London in March. Boat Safety Week and Recreational Vessel Courtesy Checks are in May. In June we have Optimist Youth Day, Rendezvous Weekend at LaSalle, Razzamajazz on the lake downtown Stratford, and Centennial Anniversary of Stratford Parks system. Dragon Boat Races once again September, and CPS National Conference in October, all of which your Bridge Officers and Volunteers are involved in! And it is so exciting that a lot of Stratford CPS members are participating in some of these events as well! Hurray for us! Commander’s Report

Hello Members:

2013 is going to be a great year for CPS.It is the 75th Anniversary of Canadian Power & SailSquadrons and there is a full calendar to keep us busy.Check out all the details in this Scuttlebutt of the events and dates and look formore events and updates in your spring Scuttlebutt.

Youth Note Card Contest 2013Theme – “The Old and the New”

Contest RulesThe entry must be a single 5”x7” digital photo that is black and white or colour.Photos will be judged for concept, originality, and content.Original photos only; computer generated, professional, or copyright materialmay not be used.The contest entry form must be completed and pasted on the back of the photo.Only one entry per person please.Do not fold photo.

Judging will be at the Squadron level first, then at District. Six entries per District will be judged at the National Conference, threefor each category.All District entries should be given to the Youth Education Committee Chair by the first day of the National conference.Ages 6-10 will submit photos of anything nautical from the past 10 years. Ages 11-14 will submit photos of anything that is old orhistorical but still nautical in nature.Both age groups will be required to submit a brief description (one paragraph) of their item and and its history

Training Officers’ ReportAs of Thursday, February 21st, 2013 we are officially finished with our first year of BoatingEssentials Classes. All in all our feedback from the students is that it was informative and theyall enjoyed their time with us. We had four students, three of who have successfully passedthe exam. Congratulations to Jennifer Lamb, John Fitzgerald and Zeph Williams and welcometo our newest members.

A special thank you to all the instructors who contributed of their time and expertise. Your knowledge andexperience help to make the course interesting and educational for all students. Without you help wecouldn't be as successful and as training Officer you make my job easy. So thank you all once again.Coming up we have a PCOC Course slated for Monday, April 8th, 2013 and Thursday, April 11th, 2013. Thecourse is over two nights beginning at 7:00 P.M.. Location will be announced closer to the date so pleasecall ahead to pre-register. The people to call are: Flona @ 519-273-6120 or Robert @ 519-595-4916.Cost is $80.00 per person. Registration before March 15, 2013 - Save $10.00. Family discount available.Also coming up is our annual VHF Marine Radio and DSC Endorsement Course. It will be held over threenights starting Monday, April 22nd, 2013, Thursday, April 25th, 2013 and Monday April 29th, 2013. Againlocation will be announced closer to the date so please pre-register by calling Flona @ 519-273-6120. Costis $70.00 per person. Registration before March 15, 2013 - Save $10.00. Wails and Tales: John GayfordJohn Gayford, a Mechanical engineer, has sailed 20,000 ocean miles and spent a year in the 70s sailing with hisbrother and his wife along Australia’s East coast. Of the 20,000 miles 12,000 were spent sailing from Oakvilleto Melbourne, Australia.Falcon GT, the vessel which carried John and his crew, was completely hand built over a six year periodhelping to complete John’s vision of building and sailing a vessel to his native Australia.Beyond fulfilling a personal dream the voyage will also serve a more global purpose in helping to raise $50.000in support of cancer research.John Gayford, Stratford Squadron Guest Speaker, who also was awarded the title “Lake Ontario Single HandedSailing Champion” will inspire and entertain you as he recounts his sailing adventures at our A.G.M. andGraduation in March at the Queens Hotel in Stratford.http://falconvoyagebrochure.blogspot.ca/
