Veolia Environnement (formerly Vivendi Environnement) has announced it intends to sell a substantial part of the US water activities of its USFilter business. According to Veolia, it plans to refocus its North American activities on services conducted under long-term operating contracts in both the industrial and municipal sectors. The company's intention is to sell USFilter's Consumer & Commercial business, i.e. Culligan and Everpure, along with the combined USFilter Systems and Services & Products business. It is anticipated that the proceeds will enable the company to reduce it net debt from 13 billion ($US15 billion) to 11 billion ($13 billion). According to Veolia, it was forced to review the strategy of its Water business in the USA following low margins for equipment sales in the first half of this year. As a result, the company has decided to refocus its Water businesses in North America on services carried out under long-term operating contracts for both municipal and industrial customers. The Culligan and Everpure businesses are leaders in both residential and commercial water treatment and have combined annual sales of $740 million. The USFilter Systems and Services & Products (equipment and industrial services) business is one of the largest water and wastewater treatment equipment and associated services company in the world and has annual revenues of $1.2 billion. Veolia will retain USFilter's Operating Services and Engineering & Construction business, which is reported to have a market share of over 40% of the municipal and industrial outsourcing market, and annual revenues of over $600 million. Following on from the Veolia Environnement name change earlier this year, Vivendi Water Systems, which is part of Veolia Water and headquartered in the UK, has relaunched its purified water treatment activities under the brand name 'ELGA Process Water'. Last month Vivendi Water Systems’ Industrial division became known as ELGA Process Water, a brand of Veolia Water Systems Ltd. The new brand will complement the existing ELGA LabWater brand, which continues to provide leading laboratory water purification products and systems. ELGA Process Water employs over 350 people and operates across three sites in the UK and one in Ireland. Contact: US Filter Corp, Cook Street, Palm Dessert, CA 92211, USA.
