Introduction Strain Gauges for Stress Analysis The Strain gauges which Peekel delivers represent-advanced technologies in R&D, manufacturing, technical support and consultancy in the application of metal foil strain gauges. The strain gauges are developed and manufactured in China and ment for transducer application and stress analysis. In product category of strain gauges, Peekel offer both metal foil strain gauges and semiconductor strain gauges. Metal foil strain gauges include the following four class strain gauges: Class-A : gauges specially designed for manufacturing of high-accuracy transducers (better than 0.02%FS). Class-B : temperature compensated gauges suitable for transducers (0.05%FS) and stress analysis of high accuracy. Class-C : gauges designed for stress analysis. Class-D : gauges for stress analysis in some critical measurement conditions. Semiconductor strain gauges are especially designed to following problems: - to probe the very weak or very small signals - to compensate for a significant non-linearity encountered in manufacturing of transducers Thanks to the higher signal output compared to the metal foil strain gauges, the semiconductor strain gauges have been playing an important role in both transducer application and strain measurements. Peekel also delivers bondable resistors that are used for temperature and modulus compensation in transducer production, and bondable terminals that are necessary for wire connection between strain gauges and instruments. In addition, Peekel are able to supply gauge installation accessories (strain-gauge adhesives, protective coatings and sealants, bonding tools, solid copper wires... ) that are useful in gauge installation process. With those accessories, one can easily bond the strain gauge on to the object surface for transducer application or stress analysis. To assist gauge application, gauge installation instructions are given as a reference document that may be useful in order to achieve quality installation of strain gauges. As a kind of foil resistors, foil RTD's (resistance temperature detectors) and foil surface-heat gauges, are also presented in this category. Foil RTD's are proved to be a powerful sensing element for the temperature measurement of metal surfaces, e.g. the metal surface of fluid transmission lines and the surface of car engines. The foil surface-heat gauges are mainly used for measurement of friction-induced strain.

    Strain Gauges for Stress Analysis

The Strain gauges which Peekel delivers represent-advanced technologies in R&D, manufacturing, technical support and consultancy in the application of metal foil strain gauges. The strain gauges are developed and manufactured in China and ment for transducer application and stress analysis. In product category of strain gauges, Peekel offer both metal foil strain gauges and semiconductor strain gauges.

Metal foil strain gauges include the following four class strain gauges:

Class-A : gauges specially designed for manufacturing of high-accuracy transducers (better than 0.02%FS).

Class-B : temperature compensated gauges suitable for transducers (0.05%FS) and stress analysis of high accuracy.

Class-C : gauges designed for stress analysis.

Class-D : gauges for stress analysis in some critical measurement conditions.

Semiconductor strain gauges are especially designed to following problems: - to probe the very weak or very small signals - to compensate for a significant non-linearity encountered in manufacturing of transducers

Thanks to the higher signal output compared to the metal foil strain gauges, the semiconductor strain gauges have been playing an important role in both transducer application and strain measurements.

Strain Gauge Coding System For better utilization of strain gauges, it is important to choose a correct strain gauge for your particular application. Peekel strain gauges are organised in gauge part numbers (P/N). The aim of this gauge coding system is to assist you in selection of a correct strain gauge according to its P/N.

For more detailed information about self-temperature compensation (STC) of strain gauges, please refer to the topic of STC.

Self-Temperature Compensation (STC) All the strain gauges for transducer application (class-A and B) and the most strain gauges for stress analysis (class-C and D), are designed to possess self-temperature compensation (STC) and available for a number of spring materials element. Listed in the Strain Gauge Coding System is the STC number for the given material. There are even more materials listed in the following Table-STC. This table lists a relation of the STC number of strain gauges and the thermal expansion coefficients () of the related material, which the strain gauge is bonded to.

Strain Gauges for Stress Analysis For the application of stress analysis and strain measurement, there are two classes of strain gauges available: class-C and class-D. As long as temperature compensation has to be taken into account in stress analysis to achieve a better accuracy in measurements, it is recommended the class-C gauges.

If the stress analysis is performed at high temperature (250 C) or performed in some special cases, such as in water-proof or for high elongation measurements, it is recommended to choose the class-D gauges for those specific conditions.

The strain gauges are organised according to their part number (P/N). For a better understanding of the strain gauges' P/N, please refer to the Strain Gauge Coding System.

Listed below is an overview of the specifications of those two classes of strain gauges. To choose a specific gauge, please look through the gauge-list on the following pages:

Class-C Strain Gauges for Stress Analysis Class-C strain gauges are temperature-compensated gauges and suitable for general purpose of stress analysis and precision strain measurements where the temperature compensation has to be taking into account. For more information on temperature compensation (S.T.C.), please refer to the topic of STC.

The gauges are organised in part numbers (P/N). In order to choose a proper gauge according to gauge P/N, it is better first refer to Strain Gauge Coding System for a quick selection of the correct gauge.

  • Metallic Foil Strain Gauges

Class-D Strain Gauges for Stress Analysis Class-D gauges are specially designed for application of stress analysis to be performed in some critic measurement conditions, like high temperatures (up to 250 C), water proof, or high elongation.

As long as temperature induced error is not so important that it is not necessary to take into account temperature compensation, the class-D strain gauges are recommended in above-mentioned critic measurement conditions.

The class-D gauges are organised in gauge part numbers (P/N). In order to choose a proper gauge according to gauge P/N, we suggest you first refer to Strain Gauge Coding System for a quick selection of the correct gauge.

Following tables list all class-D gauges available for delivery.
