SUMMARY

I tested Storfirst EAS which is a product of Seven Ten Storage Software, Inc.

It allows tiered backup storage, and is compatible with PEER 1 Cloud One cloud storage. In my testing,

I only had it backup to the EMC cloud, but it is capable of much more, all of which was untested (i.e.from their data sheet Native integrated support for FC Disk, Cloud, iSCSI, SATA, NAS, CAS, Tape and

VTL)

Here are the StorFirst EAS system requirements:

Dedicated Windows 32-bit 2003 or 2008 Server (VMware vSphere 4 and ESXi are supported)

Windows Server 2003 Standard SP 1 or later

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP 1 or later

Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard SP 1 or later

Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise SP 1 or later

Windows Server 2008 Standard SP 2 or later

Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP 2 or later

2.4 GHz dual core processor or higher (3 GHz recommended)

Minimum 3GB RAM (4GB RAM recommended)

Minimum 100GB of free disk space (6GB for the StorFirst EAS installation directory). The

installation directory includes:

EAS Database (add 1GB per 2 million files added to the StorFirst EAS file system)

5GB default cache file (configurable up to 500GB)

System logs

Job logs

Software

Shareable URLs?

No. Storfirst EAS is meant to be used for data storage management.

The following is information directly from the vendor:

The cache file is a set size. If it is set at5

00GB, you would need5

00GB of free disk space on theserver. We then write into the cache file and flush to the cloud. Even if you wrote a 10GB file, it

would write the 10GB file into the 500GB cache and then write it out to the cloud.

If you set the cache file size to 10MB, the biggest file you can upload is 10MB, so this file needs to be set

to a size larger than the largest file.

StorFirst EAS is an installable, highly scalable file system that serves as an archive target for applications

and file server data. This software-only technology is installed on a Windows server (physical or virtual)

between applications and the storage platforms that house data.

supports FC disk, cloud, iSCSI, SATA, NAS, CAS, tape, and VTL.

StorFirst EAS offers multi-petabyte scale with support for billions of files and directories.

StorFirst EAS provides a global network share with CIFS/NFS/HTTP presentation of the storage. As data

passes through the StorFirst EAS share, the software can replicate to multiple targets simultaneously forbuilt-in disaster recovery/replication.

StorFirst EAS helps organizations adhere to strict compliance regulations, creating indelible volumes

through a WORM format.
