The printer is computer peripheral and output device that accepts text and graphic as input and prints or illustration on paper as a hard copy in the form of document or transparencies.
What is Printer?
• In 1938, Chester Carlson developed a dry printing process-electro photography and process to xerograph in 1949.• In 1971, Gary Stark weather build a laser printer call
“SLOT” • However , printing was popularized in the western
world in the 16th century by Johannes Glutenberg.• He invented the Glutenberg Press, which was a
innovative machine that revolutionized printing.

Type of Printer
Impact PrintersAn impact printer makes contact with the paper. It usually forms the print image by pressing an inked ribbon against the paper using a hammer or pins. Following are some examples of impact printers:
Dot-Matrix PrintersDaisy-wheel printers
Type of Printer
Impact PrintersDaisy Wheel Printer Dot-Matrix Printer
Type of Printer
Daisy Wheelproduces letter quality printcannot produce graphics outputA hammer strikes a “petal” containing a character against the ribbon
Dot Matrix Printer
These printer use print heads containing from 9 to 24 pins
The user can produce a color output with a dot-matrix printer
Cheapest and most noisy
Type of Printer
Non-Impact Printers
Non-impact printers do not use a striking device to produce characters on the paper
Type of Printer
Following are some examples of non-impact printers:
Type of Printer
Ink-Jet Printer
Laser Printer
Type of Printer
Thermal Printer Plotter

Color output Limited color printing strong clear color
Advantages and Disadvantages of Impact Printer
AdvantagesLower cost per page printingCost less to purchaseDo not require special paper to print on
DisadvantagesNoisyprint slowlyInk ribbon has a short lifespanLow print quality
Advantages and Disadvantages of Non-Impact Printer
Advantagesprinter cartridges and drums are recyclableprint high volumes in short durationproduce high quality imageworks fast and quietly
Disadvantagescost more to purchasea laser printer occupies a lot of space and
emits dust particles

Conclusion
A printer is an electromechanical device which converts the text and
graphical documents from electronic form to the physical form.
categorized as impact and non impact printers.
Impact printers are the type of printers in which a key strikes the paper
to make a letter. Examples :Daisy Wheel Printer and Dot Matrix Printer.
Non-impact printers do not operate by striking a head against a ribbon.
Example : Inkjet printers and laser printers
The example of others printer are portable printers, digital photo
printers, multifunction printers and 3D printers.
