Description

A delightful three bedroom end of terrace cottage, tucked away

in an elevated and peaceful position within the characterful

hamlet of Darshill, near Shepton Mallet. The property was

developed from two former silk weavers cottages and offers very

nicely presented and well-proportioned accommodation. A

charming and intriguing property, Steps Cottage has lots of

character including exposed beams and feature stone walls, plus

the most wonderful landscaped garden at the rear.

Accessed via a series of stone steps from Back Lane, the

property has a unique entrance, bordered by sections of

elevated garden and a wood store. A door leads into the

entrance hall, which has plenty of fitted storage units for coats

and boots plus space for a good size fridge freezer. The hall

then leads into a useful utility room, which incorporates plumbing

for washing machine and space for a tumble drier or freezer,

plus a wall mounted gas fired combination boiler. The hall also

gives access into the open plan kitchen / dining room & sitting

room. The kitchen has been fitted with a range of matching floor

and wall units, in a 'Farmhouse' style, with solid wood work

surfaces, inset Belfast sink, range cooker and integrated

dishwasher. The dining area offers plenty of room for a good

size table and chairs, occupying a space between the kitchen

and a pretty ornamental inglenook. The sitting room has a tiled

fireplace with wood burner, characterful alcoves, shelving and a

door leading into the conservatory. Another good size room, the

conservatory (also accessed from the utility room) offers an

additional sitting or dining space and overlooks the garden with

views of the valley.

On the first floor, there are three bedrooms, all of which can

accommodate a double bed if required. The main bedroom has

fitted wardrobes to one wall. Although compact, the bathroom is

tastefully fitted with a white suite and has a shower over the

bath. In addition to the main accommodation, the property

benefits from a cellar which is located underneath the kitchen

and accessed via stone steps at the front. Fitted with light, power

and water, the cellar is a particularly useful space and could

easily be used as an office, play room or quite simply as

additional storage.

Outside

On approaching the property, on Back Lane, there is a single

garage with 'up and over' door, light, power and a parking space

in front. Steps then lead up to the front of the cottage and

continue up to an additional piece of elevated garden. One of the

main selling points of this property is the rear garden, which has

been thoughtfully landscaped and replanted. There are well-

tended terraced gardens to the side and rear with a stone

chipped area for seating, alongside a large fishpond with

waterfall and wooden bridge. A gravel pathway leads from the

conservatory through to the foot of the garden with numerous

beds, shrub and planted borders. Steps then lead up to the area

of raised ground, which has a lovely outlook towards the valley

and woodland beyond.
