Wanted: Artists forWorship!

Many ofyou have remarked upon the line drawingsregularly featured in our worshipbulletins. Thisartwork is another wayof communicating theessence of a worship theme or scriptural passage. We would like future bulletins to featurethehandiwork of our own artists here at John Knox.

Do youlove to draw? Let us know if you wouldbeinterested in preparing line drawings for the bulletinsin upcomingservices. As we move into nextyear’sworship with The Jesus Storybook Bible, wehope to assign artists to prepare a featured image forworship on particularSundays. Artists of all agesare invited to volunteer: moms and dads may helptheir young artistsunderstand and depict the selectedstory.

If youwould like to offer your artistic gifts for worship, please contact GordonTurnbull at the church (244-0453; [email protected]).

The deadline is this Sunday forthe 2016 Angel Tree.

Our Deadline is Sunday, December 11 . We askall Angel presents to beturned in to the office building.

We are helping two agencies this year– GAIHN (Interfaith) and GreerRelief.

Both are near and dear to our hearts since we are supportingthe veryfamilies that stay here at John Knox through Interfaith, and we supportGreer Relief through our very own Caroline Robertson.

Some gifts are pricey so accept a challenge: get a grouptogether, do it as afamily project, or ask your friends and co-workers!

No time to shop? We have a group of elves that will behappy to help! Cash donations are very appreciatedand will be used to purchase unassigned angel gifts.

Finishing Strong in 2016Theend of the year is close at hand, and our leadersand staff are working hard tocomplete our work forthe year and plan for the year ahead. As we finishthis year, here are things thateach of us can do tostrengthen the church’s ministry.

Fulfill your 2016commitmentHaveyou fulfilled your pledge for 2016? Ifyou are notsure, feel free to call Brett Simmons at the church foran updateon your pledge status.

Consider extragiving Manypeople choose to remember or honor lovedones with special gifts to the churchat Christmas. Others plan significantdonations to worthy causes at year’s end. Some seek to maximize their tax savings bymaking sizeable gifts. This kind of giving makes a big difference toour ministry. Please consider JohnKnoxPresbyterian Church with this kind of year-end, “above-and-beyond” giving.

Pledge for 2017Ourbudget depends mainly upon pledgedofferings; we cannot plan responsibly for ministry withoutthesecommitments. If you know that you wantto support Christ’s ministry through our church, pleasecommunicate that desireby submitting a pledge toward our work together.

Pray for John KnoxThefinancial work of our church serves and equips the greater, spiritual work towhich we are called. Pleasejoin inasking God to enrich our life and direct our work together so that every aspectof our ministry glorifies theLord we serve.

Save the Date

Ladies, markyour calendars for Saturday, March 4,2017 for our annual Women’s Retreat. Speaker andauthor Cary Campbell Umhau willchallenge us toconsider ImmeasurablyMore: Beyond the “GoodLife.” Cary asks what it looks like to line up ourliveswith our beliefs and to truly live the abundant life thatJesuspromises. We will explore how to orientourlives around those promises, day in and day out. Join us as we examine some of what ourcultureencourages us to settle for and why it willalways be inferior to God’s giftsand promises to us.

Caryapproaches this topic from a place of vulnerablehonesty and refreshinghumor. A gifted storytellerwho sharesfrom her own experience, sheencourages people to demolish “us andthem”paradigms. In her spiritual memoir,BurningDown the Fireproof Hotel, Cary describeshow God moved in her life toreveal more of himselfthan she imagined was true as he challenged hertoembrace the truly abundant life available to her inChrist. We’ll journey with her toward this lifeof“immeasurably more” and will consider ways wecan open our own lives to God’spromise in Psalm16: “You make known tome the path of life; you fillme with joy in your presence, with eternalpleasuresat your right hand.”

Spread theword to your friends and plan on spending Saturday, March 4, 2017 with us—we’llhave wonderfulteaching, warm fellowship, meaningful worship, and, of course, delicious food! Watch for registrationdetails tofollow soon.

Clerk’s ReportThe Session of John Knox Presbyterian Church met onSunday, December 4, 2016 at 12:15 PM, in the KirkRoom for their regularmonthly meeting. The only item of business was the examination of the new classofelders. After the new elders were elected last September, they were provideda period of study and preparation. Then the Session examined them as to theirreadiness to serve. Each elder- elect addressed the group, talkingabout theirbackground and their faith. Kitty Olsen and Jim Barnett, who both served on theCongregationalNominating Committee, spoke on what a spirit led process it hadbeen.

The new elders were joyfully approved.
