INTRODUCTION

Page 2: Stealth Technology Presentation

• Stealth technology can be describe as a technology that be used to make a thing being less visible to radar, infrared and other detection method.

• Basically used for aircraft, ships, submarines and missiles for military.

• Stealth technology usually used in radar communication and applied in military tactics.

• Widely used in a war after this technology applied for Lockheed Martin F-117 stealth fighter (The first large scale (and public) use of the F-117)

How does stealth technology works in radar communication??

• Stealth technology designed to make an airplane invisible to radar

• However, it still can be detected at short ranges around the radar.

• So, the stealth aircraft must be in substantial gaps in radar coverage so that it still can’t be detected by radar.

Page 4: Stealth Technology Presentation

• The stealth aircraft basically be shaped so that it can reflected any radar signal it reflects away from the radar signal

• This stealth technology is very useful for military field to improve their military technique.

RECENT MAJOR DEVELOPMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE TECHNOLOGY

Stealth refers to the act of trying to hide or evade detectionExample for airplanes, stealth first meant hiding from radarSubmarines hid under the waves to sneak up on ships, nowadays

submarines used special coatings on their periscopes to

avoid radar detection.Cockpits, was carefully designed and coated with special materials so that it can

bounce radar straight back to the source.Engine inlets are often designed so that the radar energy cannot go straight into

them and reach the face of the turbine blades. Instead, the radar energy is

bounced back and forth inside the inlet.Tail surfaces are sharply angled, rather than vertical, so that they can

bounce radar in a different direction.

DEVELOPMENT PARAMETERS IN STEALTH TECHNOLOGY

Page 7: Stealth Technology Presentation

Demand factors

• Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and advanced development programmes are continuously working to mature technologies and capabilities to improve all aspects of stealth.

• All stealth technologies and research in this area are sensitive and are co-ordinated with appropriate.

• The first objective of stealth technology has been focused on defeating detection by airborne and surface radars.

• So the state of the art in stealth technology evolved quickly from the faceted shape of the Lockheed Martin F-117 to the blended curves of the Northrop Grumman B-2 bomber to the Lockheed F-22's unique combination of high speed, agility and very low observability to radars.

Page 8: Stealth Technology Presentation

Competing technologies

• Some signs suggest the primacy of radar-only stealth is starting to fade, albeit slowly and incrementally.

• Serdar Cadirci, a Turkish air force officer, published his master's thesis last March for the US naval postgraduate school, focusing on the current state of stealth and counter-stealth technologies.

General constraints

• Just as wing-mounted lamps were used in the Second World War to obscure Grumman TBM-3D Avenger dive-bombers from ground observation.

• The next generation of US combat aircraft are likely to feature techniques to make them invisible to a naked human eye - or electro-optical sensor.

• In a modern update of Project Yehudi, Kevin Dowling, an engineer for Philips Electronics North America, has patented a concept to embed sensors and light emitting diode-based lighting into the skin of a stealthy aircraft.

MILITARY FIELD

• German designers produced a largely transparent monoplane; its wings and fuselage were covered by a transparent material derived from cellulose

• With the invention of radar during World War II, stealth became both more needful and more feasible be adapted to guiding antiaircraft missiles and gunnery at them.

Stealth aircraft

• The wing will build on a metallic substrate (pyramid shape with spaces between pyramid)

• as the radar striking the zigzag (between the pyramid walls) the absorption will be increase by lengthening signal path through absorbent material

• Radar also can be reflected when three planar surface meet at a corner. It tend to be highly angled and streamlined, resulting no flat surface at all

Stealth ship

• the shape of the ship must avoid vertical surface which is the radar beam are originated

• Retro-reflective right angles are eliminated to avoid causing the cat's eye effect.

• The hull and superstructure with a series of slightly protruding and retruding surface can be constructed in order to achieve a stealthy ship shape.

Page 17: Stealth Technology Presentation

• Malaysia can develop these two types of stealth technology in military field.

• Maybe this time Malaysia do not involve in any kind of war but Malaysia can develop them so they can be use one day later when Malaysia faces some threaten from other country.

• By developing these two types of technology, Malaysia can be seen as a country the follow the tradition of technology. We also can help other country by building our own stealth aircraft or stealth ship and have a good study on it to gain more information in order to come out with a better stealth technology and 100% invisible to the radar communication.

CONCLUSION

• Stealth technology is a techniques used with aircrafts, ships

and missiles, in order to make them less visible to radar and

other detection methods.

• Need of Stealth Technology very importance in military

field.

• However stealth technology disadvantage:

Stealth aircraft cannot fly as fast like conventional

aircraft.

high Costs

radar technology is also likely to advance with time-

possible to detect stealth craft

Page 19: Stealth Technology Presentation

• Future of stealth technology

Stealth Technology has improved significantly more

advanced .This trend is likely to continue as these two

oppose each other.

stealth technology are not yet available worldwide, but

military forces around the world will soon begin to attempt

to mimic some of the key features of stealth planes.
