ExpansionThe Staten Island Museum continues to look toward the future, which happens to be next door – Building B on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center. We are working with the City of New York to renovate the former dormitory into our Natural Science and Biodiversity Center. To date, the City provided over half of the $13M needed to renovate Building B. Mayor Bill de Blasio contributed $3.7 million; City Council Member Debi Rose allocated the majority of the $2.215 million from the City Council; and Borough President James Oddo donated $1.066 million totaling almost $7 million.
Membership and Visitors Each day, and especially with the opening of our new home at Snug Harbor, the Staten Island Museum has seen more and more visitors cross our thresholds. In 2016, the two sites had 54,064 visitors - 25% more than we had three years ago! Additionally, membership has grown: there were 1179 members in 2016, 753 of which joined the Museum through the ID NYC program.

A Little Help From Our FriendsThe Staten Island Museum is grateful to the organizations and foundations that provide grants and sponsorships to help us achieve our mission. Thanks to support from Deutsche Bank, the Hearst Foundation, Verizon Foundation, Mid-Island Rotary Foundation, Staten Island Rotary Foundation, and Con Edison, we have been able to provide thousands of underserved students from Title-I schools free and reduced rate classes, develop new lessons, and offer STEM programming to middle school students. Additionally, organizations like TD Bank, Macy’s and Northfield Bank Foundation have provided essential support to grow our institution and increase our offerings.
PartnershipsWe accomplish more when we work together. That’s why, this year the Staten Island Museum began a partnership with Level Solar, a green energy company bringing solar power to homes throughout Staten Island and New York City. Interested in switching? Mention the Staten Island Museum and Level Solar will donate $250 to us!
