What is Volunteering and Why Should I do it?
Volunteering can Include:
• Work in your department (StARs!)• Roles on campus: Red T-shirts,
Student Ambassadors, Global Guides etc.
• Helping out in the community• Fundraising• One-off events• Working with charities and
organisations• Environmental and Green projects• Mentoring and buddying schemes• Helping those with disabilities• Being a committee member for your
club or society• Many more – anybody doing
something different?
Benefits of Volunteering:
• Develop your skills and gain new ones• Network within an organisation and
gain valuable contacts• It can help inform and boost career
choices: 73% of employers said they’d employ somebody who has volunteered over someone who hasn’t.
• Make a positive difference to the lives of others
• Build your confidence• Good for mental (and sometimes
physical!) health• A great way to connect and feel
established in the city• It’s good fun!
