WELCOME TO MONTALVO!The Perseid meteor shower bursts into light this month as Earth passes through the long trail left by Comet Swift-Tuttle, producing a dazzling show for us tiny spectators. Tonight is inspired by humankind’s abiding fascination with the night sky and beyond. We hope you enjoy wondering at the beauty of our natural world while immersing yourself in the delights of visual and performing arts!

1 ART-MAKING: CONSTELLATION ETCHING 6:45 – 8:15pm • Great LawnExpress yourself by creating original works of star-themed art, using simple scratch boards to etch your own imaginative constellations into a night sky.
DANCING IN THE VOID: SOLAR SYSTEM 7:00 – 7:45pm • Great LawnDancers wanted! This unique performance, orchestrated by Montalvo’s Lucas Artists Fellow Matteo Rubbi, is not only an engaging opportunity but also uses the movements of the dancers to replicate the geometry of the planets that form our solar system.
MOVIE SCREENING: WALL·E 7:00 – 8:40pm • Charmaine’s Garden TerraceAfter hundreds of lonely years of doing what he was built for, the curious and lovable WALL·E discovers a new purpose in life when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. Join them and a hilarious cast of characters on a fantastic journey across the universe, discovering love, friendship, and the importance of caring for our planet.
DATAPRINT: OPEN STUDIO 7:00 – 9:00pm • Project Space GalleryDATAprint invites a conversation on digital autonomy by acquiring the virtual fingerprints of its audience through a succinct, interactive adventure, and then cultivating a stunning world of dynamic, sentient data. Audience avatars are lovingly composed, then surrendered to an ever-evolving ecosystem of social networks, surveillance, economics, and analytics, painting the realm of the virtual world and how it alters our physical lives.
GUIDED NIGHT HIKE 7:00 – 7:45pm • Garden Theatre (meeting point) to the Upper TrailsAdventure into the forest on a guided night-hike with staff. Discover the plants and small creatures that make up this natural environment as you enjoy the magic-hour light of sunset on this fun, mindful exploration of our hiking trails.
TELESCOPES: PERSEIDS METEOR SHOWER TOURS 8:00 – 10:00pm • Lower Great Lawn Presented by the San Jose Astronomical Association. Gaze through telescopes and meet members of SJAA as they share their knowledge of the night sky. This is the perfect opportunity to ask questions about star names, constellations, the science of telescopes, and more!

READING: THE MAP OF SALT AND STARS 9:00 – 9:15pm (#1) • 9:30-9:45pm (#2) • Garden TheatreOpen your mind and use your imagination as Montalvo’s Lucas Artists Fellow Jennifer Zeynab Joukhadar reads excerpts from her book, The Map of Salt and Stars.
