The StarJet continues Hauck’s long-standing reputation for providingefficient and durable burners for theasphalt industry. The burner isdesigned to recirculate the hot gases,providing flame stability over its wideoperating range. This eliminates theneed for refractory ignition tile andcombustion chamber. The StarJetcan have the short, bushy flame fordrum mixing or a long flame dependingon the application. The burner’s wideturndown is particularly useful whenlower production rates are desired,such as when making cold patchmaterial.

Flame shaping is achieved by moving the adjustment lever at theside of the burner. This lever is directlylinked to the adjustable spin vanes.This feature greatly reduces setuptime at initial startup or whenever theplant is relocated, and permits fine-tuning when mix changes require achange in flame shape and intensity.The operator can ensure that flameshape and intensity are always optimalbecause fine-tuning can be accomplished in minutes instead ofhours.

The StarJet fires all commercial grades offuel oil, natural gas, LP, and landfill gas.As a combination burner, the StarJet willburn any two fuels in combination withthe exception of LP in the liquid state andfuel oil. When these two fuel combinationsare desired, it is necessary to specify theprimary fuel and purchase the separateatomizer set assembly for the standbyfuel.

The StarJet also provides greater flexibilityin mounting a burner/blower combinationon dryer frames in confined spaces. Thismounting flexibility is achieved by a 45ºair entry available at the 3, 6, 9, or 12o’clock position, providing a wide range ofburner/blower angle arrangements. Theburner air inlet is the same diameter asthe Hauck Turbo Blower outlet. Hauck’sline of standard and high pressure direct-drive blowers matched to the StarJet burner simplifies installation.

StarJet fuel manifolds and air systemsconform to the standards of theNational Fire Protection Association(NFPA). The StarJet burner is fittedwith automatic valving and controls toallow for full flame supervision andoptimum compatibility with Hauckcombustion control systems.Specifically designed for asphaltplants, these control systems aredescribed in separate data sheets.

High Intensity FlameHauck’s proven experience in theasphalt industry clearly shows thatcombustion volume intensity is thekey to burner performance. TheStarJet was designed to maximizeflame intensity and deliver a quickheat release. Combustion is completedin a much shorter space than that ofany other burner on the market today.This minimizes flame quenching bythe aggregate and allows more spacein the dryer for material vailing, thusimproving production performanceand fuel efficiency.

High Pressure BlowersHauck’s 36 ounce blowers deliversuperior fuel atomization and combustion intensity. Atomizing air issupplied by the burner blower.

For 50 Hz requirements, high pressure belt-drive blowers at 3600rpm are available.

Flame ShapingThe StarJet allows flame shaping totailor the flame shape to the requirements of any drum throughadjustment of the spin vanes. A single adjustment lever changes theangle of the spin vanes in the secondary air passage. The flame iseasily adaptable from a short bushyflame to a long, narrow pencil flame.The plant operator can change theflame shape in a matter of minutes.The change from a virgin mix to arecycle mix is a simple process. Forthe first time, there is a burnerdesigned for all applications: batchplant drums, drum mixers, and drummixers with recycle.

FOR ASPHALT PRODUCTION

StarJet BurnerHauck has designed the StarJet with aninternal zone of hot recirculatinggases. This assures the stability ofthe burner flame. Combustion can becompleted in a much shorter spacewith an intense bushy flame ideal fordrum mixing - or with a long flamedepending on the application. With aproperly designed combustion zonewithin the dryer, the StarJet providesthe most efficient heat transfer to thematerial.

Superior Oil AtomizationThe StarJet is capable of burning acomplete range of available fuel oilsincluding heavy oils and waste oils.The unique ‘Swirl Generator’ oil nozzle efficiently atomizes even themost difficult heavy oil and waste oil.As evidenced in the photographabove, the ‘Star’ shaped atomizationpattern is clearly evident. Low pres-sure oil and blower air are mixed inthe nozzle and create a vaporized fuelmist. The swirl generator causesrapid combustion resulting in a flamethat is low pressure center stabilized.Compressed air atomization is alsoavailable for high altitude or heavy oilapplications.

Natural Gas and LPAs is true of the oil flame, both theLP flame and the natural gasflame have maximum flame inten-sity and a rapid heat release. Thisensures improved fuel efficiencyand production performance. Inaddition, the constant pressure LPsystem available from Hauck provides excellent temperaturecontrol and a wide turndown (7:1or more). Whatever your fuelrequirements are, the StarJet isyour best combustion choice.

The StarJet, with all of its outstanding features, is the bestopen-fired combustion system onthe market today. It burns lightand heavy fuel oils, waste oils, natural gas, landfill gas and L.P.

Combustion Flights

Combustion flights are a means ofproviding a volume within thedrum for the combustion processto take place without beingquenched by the material to bedried. They also help divert materialflow along the drum shell toreduce shell temperatures. Shelltemperatures are a function of:

1. available combustion volumefor the required heat

2. the density of the material vaildownstream

3. the required material outlet temperature

4. the design of the material flowthrough the combustion zone.

Hauck recommends that flights besized to provide a solution for twoof the four parameters - the combustion volume and materialflow through the combustion zone.

Stainless Steel Ignition Cone eliminates heavy refractory ignition tile.The cone lasts considerably longerand is less expensiveto replace.

Direct Drive Blowersare availableat 24 and 36osig. The lowpressure 24osig blowersare typicallyused on gasand light fueloil for longflame, non-vailing typedrum designs.The higher pressure 36 osig blowers,highly desirable for burning heavy fueloil, are necessary for operation athigher elevations to achieve highcombustion intensities in the dryer.For severe elevation and heavy fueloil, compressed air atomization isavailable.

Flame Shape Adjustmentis achieved by moving the adjustmentlever at the side of the burner. Thislever is directly linked to the adjustablespin vanes. This feature greatlyreduced set up time at initial start-upor whenever the plant is relocated,and permits fine-tuning when mixchanges require. Fine-tuning can beaccomplished in minutes instead ofhours.

Dual UV Scanner Tubespermit monitoring pilot and main flamesindividually. The UVscanner tubes are connected to an airpurge, which minimizesdirt infiltration and provides cooling air.

Fuel Flow Meteris standard on both oiland LP fuel manifolds.

Oil Atomizerrequires only lowpressure air in mostapplications. Whenhigher elevationsand heavy oil sodictate, compressedair atomization isavailable.

Oil or LP Nozzleis removable from rear of burner foreasy-access maintenance.

Miniskidpermits the burner to be mounted withthe air inlet at any of four positions.

Note: Only 40% of air for combustion is passed through the burner. The remaining 60% of air for combustion plus a minimum of 20% excess airmust be induced by the dryer exhaust system at a negative pressure (-0.25"w.c.) at the burner breeching ring. Dryer leakage air is not useable inthe combustion process.
