intrigue! You’ll see white rabbits, flamingos, grinning cats,caterpillars and maybe even a Tea Party! Some say to survive it,you need to be as “MAD AS A HATTER”, which luckily I am!

DIVISION I – HORTICULTUREDisplayed on the Loggia and in the Windstar Room

Wonderland GardensRULES

All Horticulture specimens must be fresh plant material grown byexhibitor.Entries must be ‘show’ quality, well groomed in suitable clean containers.Treated (altered) specimens will be disqualified. (HB pg. 99)All specimens entered must be correctly labeled with botanical namesor currently accepted scientific identification or Trademarked (™) orregistered trademarked name (®), to be eligible for a Top ExhibitorAward. (HB pgs 93 & 97) Common names may be used, but not sub-stituted for a scientific name to win a Top Exhibitor Award. Exhibitor may submit more then one entry per class or sub-class, if eachis a different genus, species, variety, cultivar, type, form, size, or color.Cut specimens of annuals, perennials and biennials must have been in theexhibitor’s possession from seeds, cuttings or immature plants and grownto maturity. Bulbous plants must have been grown from planting of bulb,tuber, corm, etc., or a minimum of 90 days. Container grown plants musthave been in exhibitor’s possession at least 90 days. Combination plant-ings must have been grown together no fewer then 6 weeks and orchidsmust have been in the exhibitor’s possession for at least six (6) months.(Revised HB pg 103)Exhibits of self-multiplying and other multiple plants are permitted.Plants on the threatened or endangered lists, http://virtualherbarium.org/EPAC/ must have been grown by theexhibitor or obtained in a legal manner. Alice’s EncountersRULES

Only members of National Garden Clubs, Inc. may enter the Design Divisionby pre-registering with Gail Pica, [email protected] Classes are limited to four entries. Exhibitors may enter only onedesign in each Class, but may enter as many Classes as desired.Entry cards will be prepared by the Entries Chairman and placed in eachdesigner’s exhibiting location Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Designs must bethe work of a single exhibitor and that exhibitor’s name must be on the entrycard.If a designer is unable to fulfill a design assignment, it is the responsibilityof that designer to provide a substitute. The Design Entries Chairman mustbe notified of the substitution/or problem with entry fulfillment ASAP.All designs must contain some plant material, however, the exhibitor neednot have grown plant material used in designs. (see pg. 5 #9)The committee supplies all pedestals, tables, frames and boxes. Suppliedstaging may not be painted, papered, substituted, or modified in any per-manent way. All pedestals are black and all tables are covered to the floor in black, unlessotherwise stated.Designs will be judged from at least 3 feet in center front, unless otherwisenoted in schedule.The treating of fresh plant material - embellishing, painting, glittering, waxing,etc. is not permitted. However plant material may be abstracted (HB pg.185).Artificial plant materials, cut fruit/vegetables, prepared foods, natural bird’snests, butterflies or other insects, fish, birds, or animals, landscapes or scenesand the official American Flag and other national flags, are not permitted inany design. The use of any official national flag as an underlay, background,skirting, draping, etc., is also not permitted.Treated or dried plant materials, contrived flowers and/or plant forms con-structed of recognizable plant materials, decorative woods, backgrounds,and/or draping, underlay, overlay and bases are permitted unless otherwisespecified in the Schedule.Plant material must be neatly and correctly named on a plain 3” x 5” card.(2 copies) Designer’s name and Class must be listed on the reverse side ofboth cards.Judges are requested to award 90+ where merited and to provide commentson all designs including Blue Ribbon Exhibits.Accessories and featured objects may be used.The Classification Chair must approve and sign off on exhibit for conformancebefore the exhibitor leaves the exhibition space.It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to keep his/her design in pristine conditionthroughout the show. Removal of a design and/or awards prior to the Show’scompletion is forbidden.

The photo chair, Susan Haley, will accept all photos andverify that all specifications have been met.Pre-registration in the photography classes is required by February10, 2014. Naples Garden Club (NGC) is a non-profit community-oriented charitableand educational organization. It is a member of National Garden Clubs,Inc. Deep South Region and Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc.District IX. The NGC office is located at Naples Botanical Garden(NBG).

Membership in Naples Garden Club kindles friendships and inspiresconnections among individuals who want to foster appreciation andunderstanding of horticulture, floral design and the environment. Gen-eral meetings are held on the first Monday of each month from No-vember through April. Monthly meetings take place in the KapnickBuilding, Buehler Auditorium, located at NBG. NGC offers interactiveworkshops to members in floral design and horticulture along with fieldtrips and speakers.

For sixty-one years, Naples Garden Club’s House and Garden Tourhas been a highlight of the Season. This perennially sold-out eventshowcases unique homes and inspiring gardens while raising funds thatsupport scholarships and community projects.

The Naples Garden Club Endowment annually awards financial as-sistance to a selected student who conducts research in plant sciencesat Florida Gulf Coast University’s Kapnick Education and ResearchCenter. This endowed fellowship continues the Garden Club’s decades-long practice of awarding scholarships to benefit the community.

Naples Garden Club in partnership with Naples Botanical Gardenpresents the juried Naples Flower Show, the largest flower show inSWFL. Thousands enjoy spectacular floral designs, exotic plants, ed-ucational displays, interactive demonstrations, entertainment, andshopping in a beautiful tropical setting.

The Idea Garden at Naples Botanical Garden, funded by Naples Gar-den Club in 2010, opens eyes to new ways of enjoying sustainable gar-dening techniques in Southwest Florida. It is a place to learn practicalways to create beauty with plants, grow one’s own food and conservewater.

Naples Garden Cub welcomes new members. Those interested shouldreside in the Naples area for a minimum of four months during “sea-son”, attend a membership meeting, be sponsored by a Club member,approved by the NGC Board, fulfill Provisional requirements and par-ticipate in Club activities.
