Focus – Subitizing
Subitizing is instantly recognising ‘how many’ are in a small collection of objects without having to count e.g. recognising the dot configuration on a dice that represents 5 instantly without having to count the dots.
You will need:

50 - 6 = 44. Then start at 44 and roll again. Keep subtracting until you get to 0. To make it harder, start at 100. To make it easier, start at 30. You can use the attached hundreds grid to help.
Focus – Length
Measure a broom and investigate what different objects could fit along its length.
Write your object and how many times they would fit the length of the broom.
Then start at 44 and roll again. Keep subtracting until you get to 0. To make it harder, start at 100. To make it easier, start at 30. You can use the attached hundreds grid to help. Activity: Length WHO HAS THE BIGGEST HEAD IN THE FAMILY? Students measure around their family’s heads with string or paper strips and mark correctly without overlapping the string. Year 1: Measure the length in units (paperclips, lego etc.) to find who has the biggest head in the family. Record the measurements and the units used. Use approximate language to explain parts of units, “about half a unit,” eg. Dad’s head is about 15 paperclips. Year 2: Measure the length in centimetres using a ruler or tape measure. Record the measurements and the units used.
Brain Sprint:
Count backwards from 103-80. Time yourself and see if you can do it faster the second time!
Make sure you line up the bricks carefully so they are touching and not overlapping! Please use the same type of brick so your informal units are accurate. Take a photo of your toys with the Lego bricks alongside them. Write or type how many bricks long each toy is. Make sure you use words like: longest/longer than, shortest/shorter than when talking about your answer. Challenge(optional): Year 2 measure your lengths using a ruler or tape measure. Write your measurements in cm (centimetres)
Brain Sprint:
Count backwards from 93-70. Time yourself and see if you can do it faster the

Brain Sprint: Roll 2 dice and subtract the smaller number from the bigger one as fast as you can. Play 10 rounds. Note: If you have dice that are bigger than a 6-sided dice you can use that for more of a challenge.
