Writing Yesterday we started to write a story. Today we are going to work on it some more! The picture on the right is what you looked at. It looks like the dinosaurs are at a birthday party. Can you see the birthday cake and party hats? Yesterday you drew the characters who you think could be in the story.

Today we are going to do a plan for your story. Keeping in mind, we will be writing about the dinosaur picture. Draw Who is my story going to be about?

What is going to happen in my story?

When is my story taking place?

Where is my story taking place?

Why is my story taking place?

How will my story go?

Mathematics Today we will be playing '101 and you're out!'.

You will need: dice or numeral cards 1-6 pencils your workbook.

The goal is to get to 100 or as close to 100 without going over.

Take turns at rolling the dice. Choose if you would like to put your number in the tens or ones column.

Refer to the picture as an example. Use the tables below to record your answers.

Player 1

Tens Ones Number Total

Player 2

Tens Ones Number Total

After playing '101 and you're out!':

• Did you get closer to 100 on your second go with the same numbers? Why do you think that was?

• What advice would you give to someone playing this game for the first time?

Get Active! You will need:

• soccer ball, netball or similar-sized ball

• 2 field markers or shoes.

Using the ball, practice some foot skills and kicking with someone at home.

Science and Technology

Let's explore algorithms. Algorithms are a series of steps used to solve a problem or complete a task.

They can be recipes or instructions.

Did you know that dancing can also follow an Algorithm?

It's your turn!

Algorithm - Dance! • Write down your steps in the order you want to dance to them. Don't forget, good dances

repeat steps.

• Make sure you write down how many times you do a step. For example, 'Wave both

hands above your head for 8 beats'

• Use directions like left and right to help you remember which way to move. For example, 'Go

around in a circle to your left'.

• Find some fun music to put your steps to. The steps might need some changes to fit with the

music's beat.

• The dance only needs to go for 1-2 minutes.

For those who like a challenge! • Make an algorithm about how to make your favourite recipe. Remember to write the steps in the

correct order from beginning to end.

Friday To complete today's activities, you will need:

• A workbook • Pencils • Tea towel • Spoon • Playing cards • Recycled material • String, dental floss or wool • Sticky tape • Toy that can be tied to a string • Scissors • Timer (optional)

'Haunted' Tea Towel Trick! Play a trick on somebody you live with by making them think a tea towel is haunted and moving on its own!

You'll need: A tea towel and a wooden spoon.

Hold a tea towel between two hands (see picture below)

In one of your hands, hold a wooden spoon with your thumb, making sure it can't be seen from the other side of the tea towel.

Without moving your hands, with your thumb, press and push the end of the spoon forwards and backwards; this should make it look like the tea towel is moving on its own.

Don't ever let your audience see the spoon, or it will give the trick away!

Give it a try!

English- Narrative This week we have learnt lots about Mr Fox. In the last few lessons, we have learnt where he lives, what he

is like and what he does. Yesterday, you wrote about what happens in the middle of the story. Now ….

It's your turn! Describe how your story with Mr Fox ends. At the end of the story, Mr Fox...

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

It's Storytime- Read your favourite story with someone at home. Let's do an activity

Act out a favourite scene from the book (use costumes, props and siblings if you want).

Writing Let's continue our story! Dinosaur party story - Part 5 Use your planning page, beginning and middle of the story from yesterday, to write the middle of your story. Remember, the end of the story has to solve the problems that may have happened in the story.

Have a look at the example of the beginning and middle down below to help you.

Sight words

Focus words: they Today we're learning to read, say and write our focus words quickly Read and say the below words out loud:

they they they they they they they Brain Break

1. Go outside 2. Grab some coloured pencils or objects. 3. Try and match the colours to things in nature 4. Think: flowers, grass, trees

Mathematics – Number Bonds Write the missing number to make each star equal 10 CHALLENGE – create your own stars with numbers that equal 20

Let's do another activity

You will need: playing cards (Ace-10).

STEM – Parachute Challenge

Challenge Construct a parachute using recycled materials as a canopy, string as the suspension lines and a toy as the cargo.

• scissors

• timer (optional)

Make a parachute • Read the rules

• Collect materials and think about how they could be used or changed for the challenge

• Keep a notebook or STEM journal to record your ideas and discoveries

Brainstorm and Design

• What materials could you use for the canopy of the parachute?

• How long should the string be?

• Does your design meet the challenge rules?

• Which solution are you going to trial? Why did you choose that solution?

• Sketch your designs below

Time to build! Make and test your parachute

• Make your parachute

• Do a test run. Test the parachute by dropping it from your outstretched arm as high as you can reach.

• Time how long it takes to reach the ground (optional)

• Draw or take a photo of your design

• Why do you think it did/did not work?

• What else could you try?

• Maybe you could use a different material for a canopy or change the shape of the canopy

Test, improve and present

• Redesign your parachute. What improvements did you make? Note this on your drawing

• How many times did you test your design?

• Did you meet the challenge?
