Purpose of the Meeting

To give you some information about KS2 tests

To show you what is expected for children in

order to achieve 100 (national standard)

To give you an opportunity to ask questions

To give you ideas on how to help your child

What does SATs stand for?

Statutory Assessment Tasks and Tests – end of KS1 and end of KS2

Assessments in English and maths

Some schools chosen for science assessment. This happens every two years and won’t happen in 2017.

Teacher assessments and reporting

No writing test- teacher assessment across the year

Teachers will assess the writing

What form will the tests take?

English • Reading paper -a single paper with questions

based on three passages of text. Your child will

have one hour, including reading time, to

complete the test

• GPS test ( grammar, spelling and punctuation)

•This consists of two parts: a grammar and

punctuation paper requiring short answers, lasting

45 minutes, and an aural spelling test of 20

words, lasting around 15 minutes

Maths • Children will sit 3 papers in maths

• Paper 1: arithmetic 30mins

• Paper 2 and 3: reasoning, 40 mins per paper

Expected outcomes and dates

• In the summer term of 2016, children in Year 2 and Year

6 were the first to take the new SATs papers. The new-

style SATs for English and maths reflect the new

national curriculum, and are more rigorous than

previous years' tests.

• There is also a completely new SATs marking and

grading system which has replaced national curriculum

levels

• Most important – children are making progress

• Test dates this year – 8th May – 11th May 2017

How will your child be assessed?

• All papers sat by children will be marked externally

• Each child will be awarded a raw score and a scaled score

and receive confirmation as to whether or not they have

achieved the national standard.

• For example, the total marks available for the reading paper

is 50.

• Based on last year’s SATs a raw of 21 out of 50 would have

a scaled score of 100

• Any scaled score of 100 or more would indicate that a child

has reached the national standard

• Any scaled score of 99 or less would indicate that the child

has not met the national standard

• The lowest scaled score is 80

• The highest scaled score is 120

• Any child scoring a scaled score of 110 or more is

considered above national standard.

Reading Test

The Reading Booklet contains three or four different

text types. They have ONE hour to READ and

ANSWER questions.

Children have 45 mins to answer approximately 35 questions. They CAN and SHOULD refer back to the reading booklet as they answer.

• how to tell the time and calculate time intervals

• Interpreting graphs and charts

Simple formulas e.g. perimeter of a rectangle or area of a

triangle.

Measurement facts e.g. convert 0.05km into m and then

into cm

Calculations involving time and money.

Properties of 2D and 3D shapes, angles, graphs, charts.

How Can You Help?

• Use revision study books to revise topics and check homework

with your children each week rectifying any mistakes

• Use the suggested website lists from your pack

• Practise, practise, practise times tables and spellings

• Make sure they know and understand all the key vocabulary for

maths and grammar

• Make a revision timetable

• Build in a timetable to relax

• Ensure they have all the correct equipment

• Ensure they have a good breakfast, a good nights sleep and arrive

to school in plenty of time.

How the week is organised

• A timetable is issued to school, telling us which days

tests can be administered

• Please let us know immediately if your child is unwell

• All children must set the tests at the same time

• Children are divided into groups to take the tests to

make sure they are properly supported and feel

secure
