    Step 1

Get a bowl of water for wetting your ngers and themodelling tools ready.

Cover the work surface with clinglm. Place about half ablock of FIMOair basic in terracotta on the work surfaceand press it at. Cover in clinglm and then roll theFIMOair basic out to an even, approx. 0.5 cm thick sheet

using the acrylic roller.Remove the clinglm and cover the polystyrene egg withthe rolled-out modelling clay.

Add more sheets until the egg is completely covered.Take care to ensure that the edges join exactly and donot overlap.

Press everything on rmly and even it out.

Smooth over the joins using a moistened modelling toolor moist ngers.

If the hen is to sit, add a little more FIMOair basic to theunderneath of the polystyrene egg to give the hen morestability and prevent it from falling over.

    Step 2

For the neck, head and tail take smaller pieces ofterracotta-coloured FIMOair basic, position them whererequired on the polystyrene egg and bring into shape.

When attaching pieces, always moisten the area wherethey are to be added rst, add a little extra FIMOair basicand smooth over using a moistened modelling tool.

This leaves even, smooth joins. Add the three-spiked combto the head, the beak to the middle and both chin lobesunder the beak and mould to shape.

    Step 3

Using the modelling tool, make holes for the eyes and aline in the beak.

Attach two rolled-out oval pieces of terracotta FIMOairfor the wings. Now, using the modelling tool, make apattern of jagged indents in the wings.

Give a rippled nish to the bottom edges of the wings.

    Step 6

Paint the circular indents on the body of the hen usingwhite acrylic paint.

Either leave the comb, chin lobes and tail in the originalterracotta colour or paint them red.

Allow the paint to dry. Then add a coat of gloss varnishto the hen.

The varnish gives the terracotta-coloured FIMOair basica glazed look. It also protects the hen against moistureand dirt.

Tip: Should you want to display the hen on a stick e.g.as a decorative item for ower pots make a deep holein the polystyrene egg using a round wooden or metalstick.

Remove the stick and cover the polystyrene withFIMOair basic as described above, leaving the hole forthe stick free. Place the painted, dry hen on the stick, varnish it and youre done!

    Step 4

Next, take a round cap e.g. off a bottle of sweetener- and use it to make circles all over the body of the hen.

Allow the hen to dry out at room temperature for atleast 2-3 days. Should any cracks appear during thedrying process, these can be coated over easily usingfresh clay.
