Milleori, a thousand owers, is a technique already familiar from the Italian art of glass making. Here, you cantry your hand at millepunti, i.e. a thousand polka dots. The method used is the same: you take a long pattern

cane and cuts lots of thin slices off it, all identical in design. This is how this colourful thick-beaded necklace iscreated. Whether one kind of bead or lots of different ones: Its up to you to decide just how colourful yourmillepunti necklace is going to be.

You will need these STAEDTLER products: 1 block each of FIMO soft in the colours white (8020-0), tropical green (8020-53) and plum (8020-63), (other colours optional) as well as the FIMO Accessories

    blade set (8700 04), acrylic roller (8700 05) andgloss varnish (8703 01BK)

You will also require: smooth work surface (glass or ceramic) thin darning needles small black glass beads necklace with clasp crimp beads (if desired) craft pliers

Step 1Shape one strip of green FIMO soft into a sausage, approx. 1 cm in diameter. Then, using the acrylic roller, roll two strips of whiteFIMO soft into a sheet, cut the edges straight andwrap it around the green sausage. Make sure that theedges meet exactly. The white FIMO must not overlap, otherwise thepattern will be distorted.

Step 3Divide the long cane into four pieces of equal length andplace them together.Press rmly and then, starting in the middle and movingtowards the outer edges, roll again to create a thinnerand longer cane.

Step 2Roll out a thick sheet using half a block of plum andwrap it around the green-and-white sausage. Onceagain, take care that there is no overlapping! Now, using your hand, roll the pattern cane so that itgets thinner and longer. This makes the diameter ofthe cane smaller without changing the pattern.

Step 4Once again, place four equally long pieces together andshape to a cane. You dont need to reduce the diameter as much now asthe millepunti pattern is nished. If you like, you can now go on to make more, different-coloured pattern canes.

Step 5Using the exible blade, cut slices off the cane, makingthem as thin as you can. Position them closely togetheron a ball of uni-coloured FIMO and press on rmly. Now, roll the entire ball gently in your hand until the joins between the individual slices can no longer beseen.Using a needle, carefully make a hole through the beadand place in the oven to harden (e.g. by suspending theneedle with the bead over a glass or cup) at 110 Cfor half an hour.

Step 6Allow the nished beads to cool down before adding athin coat of gloss varnish. This gives them an attractive, shiny nish. Once theyre dry, you can string them ontothe necklace and add the clasp.

TIP: If you place the beads on a toothpick to varnishthem, your ngers will stay clean and dry!

TIP: If you divide the FIMO for the uni-coloured beadbases up into portions before you start shaping them, youll get nice, uniform sizes. You could, for example, divide half a block of FIMO upinto eight half strips this will give you eight

    equal-sized beads.
