Ofsted report Thank you to everyone that has passed on their praise and thanks to the staff. Your comments are much appreciated.

Climbing wall We are very keen to install a climbing wall within our school grounds to improve the physical opportunities on offer to our pupils. Next week your child will bring home a sponsorship form in order to raise funds. If every child could raise ten pounds then we could have a climbing wall installed. Every child in the school will have access to this and will enjoy learning new skills on it.

Regional E-ACT event This morning I took twelve pupils to the SS Great Britain for the regional E-ACT event. It was a celebration of dance, music, writing, art and mathematics. Our violin players (Filippos Saplaouras-Chrysikos, Isla Powell, Zoe Phillips, Merle Emhen, Maha Ehmen, Ava Chapple, Grace Jenkins, Chloe Harris and Izabella Fox) gave an excellent performance of the ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ theme. Jerry Bagunywa amazed everyone with his rapid recall of times tables. Emily Pearson read out her story, ‘The Magical Forest’ beautifully and Lowenna Read-Jennings discussed her fantastic 3D model. I was very proud of the pupils and they represented our academy in an excellent fashion. Thank you to Mrs Torpy for organising and training our violin players so well.

PTFA Disco

There are still tickets left for the PTFA disco on Friday the 18th May. Please see PTFA members for tickets. It will take place in the Shine Community Hall, thank you to them for allowing us to use it.

Joe and Sam passed their junior grading’s at Bristol North Aikido Dojo. They have now reached Green Belt level. Also grading were

former St Ursula's pupils Bryony and William Chesneau, who have made fantastic progress in the short time they have been training

and both achieved their Yellow Belt.

Sophia Kovacheva (5JP) played for the first time in the National Tennis Tournament for 10-year-old girls in Loughborough University. Sophia’s hard work in training and great positive attitude has helped her to progress so much recently, that she has been accepted to play in this important tournament.

Huge Well Done to Martin Kovachev (3DP) for completing successfully in all swimming stages! He was awarded a silver badge

and he is now moving into competitive swimming for Henleaze swimming club!

Dear Parents and Carers,

St Ursula’s are privileged enough to have been given the chance

to work with leading UK dementia charity, Alzheimer’s Society.

They will be working alongside teachers to teach your child how

to become dementia friendly. Becoming dementia friendly

means your child will learn the key facts about dementia and

will understand how they can support people living with the

condition.

Nearly one in three young people already know someone with

dementia. This could be a grandparent, a friend of the family, or

a neighbour. There are currently 850,000 people living with

dementia in the UK; by 2025 there will be one million people

living with the condition.

As more and more people develop dementia we want to increase

awareness and change the way the nation thinks acts and talks

about dementia. This requires us to change attitudes and build

knowledge in order to reduce the loneliness and social isolation

that many people with dementia experience.

A key part of this is the creation of a dementia-friendly

generation who thinks about dementia without stigma, who talks

about living with dementia more positively, and who supports

people with dementia to live the lives they want to live. By

having the ambition that every young person learns more about

dementia, we are not just educating our current generation, but

changing our communities forever. Young people are the carers,

researchers and decision makers of tomorrow so it is vital that

they have a proper understanding of dementia and how it can

affect people.

In term 6 we are lucky enough to have the opportunity to work

with Sally Townsend, an Education Community Development

Coordinator working for the Alzheimer’s Society. Sally will be

delivering a staff meeting and two separate, age appropriate,

assemblies to explain; Dementia in a child friendly way, some

of the challenges people living with Dementia can face and

simple things that we can do to make a positive difference for

them.

We also have the opportunity for Sally to run some follow up

interactive ‘Dementia Friends’ sessions with some of our

children. The sessions will explore 5 key messages around

dementia, considers the impact of dementia on memory through

something we call the bookcase analogy, and explores how

dementia impacts on undertaking everyday tasks as well as how

we can help to overcome these challenges. In the final part

pupils commit to an appropriate action so that they become a

Dementia Friend (e.g. talking to family, wearing a sticker,

fundraising etc).

We would like to be able to offer the workshops to as many

children as possible. However, spaces are limited and we would

like to ensure that children that are directly involved with,

related to or have experience of someone in their lives with or at

risk of developing Dementia are involved.

If you feel this is something your child will benefit from or you

would like them to get involved with please let your class

teacher or Miss Barrington in Early Years know.
