Dear Parents/Carers, Standards Award We received news this week that the academy has been award the ‘Standards Award’ from Bristol City Council. This is in recognition of the school’s work towards healthy eating, promoting good mental health, keeping children safe and supporting vulnerable children. Here is a direct quote from our assessor - ‘This is one of the strongest submissions we have had, there were many examples of best practice, we felt the way that you had embraced and embedded Jigsaw provides a best practice example to other schools. We feel your school has robust systems in place to identify and support children with mental health and wellbeing and other additional needs, including the use of one page profiles and weekly meetings to discuss vulnerable pupils. It is clear your school is hugely committed to keeping children safe and we were impressed by the way your school tackles bullying and how children are actively involved in this work. Your work to promote healthy eating has also been very carefully thought out and implemented, this is clearly an area that your school excels in and your physical activity provision is also very good. What also stood out was the extent to which pupils opinions are sought out, listened to and acted upon evidenced by the sheer number of pupil action groups in place in your school. This really is a great achievement and we appreciate how hard you have worked to meet the criteria, many congratulations to your whole school community.’

Dear Parents/Carers, Standards Award

We received news this week that the academy has been award the ‘Standards Award’ from Bristol City Council. A special well done to Mrs Pillay (Year 3 teacher and Healthy schools lead) who has led our application. Healthy/Walk to school week

Next week is a themed week looking at healthy eating, exercise and good mental health. There is an exciting prize for the class that has the most pupils travelling to school in an environmentally friendly way. If possible, please help your child to walk, scoot or cycle to school next week.

Year 2 and 6 SATS Well done to our Year 2 and Year 6 pupils. They have all worked incredibly hard on their SATS tests this week. Year 6 have now finished and Year 2 are nearly there. Their concentration and attitude towards the tests have been exemplary. I hope they achieve the results that they deserve. Author visit Next Thursday we have an author visiting the school - Olaf Falafel (not his real name!) he has written a new book called, ‘Old Macdonald heard a parp!’ He will be showing it and discussing it with the pupils on Thursday. It is aimed at Key Stage One pupils but may appeal to older ones. There will be copies of the book for sale after school in the hall costing £5 each.

PE kit next Thursday

Pupils can wear sports clothes to school on Thursday (Year 6 can do this on Friday as they are at the zoo on Thursday). They will take part in our all day aerobics session in order to raise money for our climbing wall (see below) Sponsorship form

PLEASE NOTE - YOU DON’T NEED TO BRING THE FORM TO SCHOOL

Your child brought home a sponsorship pack last week. Please help your child to gain some sponsorship for our aerobics day during our ‘Healthy Living Week’ at the end of May. All proceeds will go towards a new climbing wall being built near to our playgrounds. This will benefit all of our pupils by giving them more options at break times and enabling them to learn new skills. E-ACT values winners

Forthcoming Events The last couple of years have been incredibly busy for you and your PTFA Committee, as we all had a big push on school

playgrounds and minibus fund-raising. So this year we have been quieter and given you a well deserved break. We do have two final

events though to finish the year in style. Firstly, on Friday 15th June, 8pm, it is our re-scheduled Quiz Night. We're hoping the snow doesn’t

make another appearance, as we chill the prosecco and dust off the quiz sheets. If you're more worried about feeling a dunce than gold star, then

fear not! It doesn't matter if you can't name the current Number One (who can these days!?!?), its about sitting with friends, making new

ones, having a giggle and maybe, just maybe, surprising yourself! Teams are up to 6. Tickets will be on sale soon and tickets bought for the March

Quiz will be honored.

Our final event of 2017-18 is our Sunday Fun Day!

After spending so much time fund-raising for the grounds, let's ENJOY them! How many of you struggle to get your kids to leave school as they

just want to play in our amazing grounds? Well the Fun Day is all about enjoying the fantastic space we have.

For those who are spending this summer as Football World Cup Widows

(or Widowers), then this day is perfect to leave your fan at home for England v Panama, grab your picnic blanket and let your kids have a

wonderful play on the field whilst you relax. You can even escape cooking as we have an outside caterer for the day.

You can purchase £5 wristbands which will enable your child to going on any of the three fun inflatables we have as often as they like and play any of the games we'll have scattered around whilst you partake in tea,

cake... or even the gin bar!

So pop 24th June 1-4pm in your diaries NOW and bring along friends and families if you wish. We also have a car boot sale on the morning of the 24th June. You can contact the PTFA to book your car in but please do also come along to see what bargains you can find. Please pass on,

post on your Facebook pages, the info about the car boot for members of the public to grab a spot. Finally, we will be asking for volunteers for the Fun Day. We've tried to keep it small and a lot of the games self-service,

but we will still need helpers for setting up, taking down, running the bar, supervising the inflatables etc., but nothing onerous! Please keep an eye out for messages about this. We look forward to seeing you enjoying

yourselves!

On Tuesday 15th May St Ursula's took a year 3&4 team to the North Bristol Tri-Golf competition. In glorious weather the team took part in several different golf based fun activities competing

against other local schools. Many of the children were playing golf for the first time and had lots of fun and did a brilliant job. A few members of the team had played some golf before and helped the team to acquire lots of points that resulted in a third place finish. We were delighted with the behaviour of the children and were

very proud to be selected for the Spirit of the Games award, recognition for the behaviour and sportsmanship of the team on

the day. The team on the day was Toby, Theo, Will, Henry, Luka, Charlotte,

Rosie and Ella, well done to all.

Congratulations to Martin Kovachev (3DP) for being voted The Player of the Football Tournament in Clifton College on Sunday

13th May for his excellent and ever reliable defending and goalkeeping skills!

Healthy Living Week 21-25th May 2018

As part of ‘Walk to School Week”, St Ursula’s will be celebrating Healthy Living week focusing on exercise,

healthy food, mental health, cooking, growing and mindfulness. The week will provide children with fantastic

opportunities for our children to engage in hands on learning that will help develop healthy minds and healthy

bodies which are building blocks to a “ healthy happy child” It is important we educate our children in making

healthy choices that affect their growth and development, and break down barriers that relate to mental health. We

are fortunate enough to have a range of visitors from doctors, mindfulness coaches and dentists that will be

visiting our school next week to work with different year groups in keeping healthy.

On Thursday 24th May, we will be participating in a whole school aerobics day. This is to raise funds for our

new climbing wall. Children are to come in to school wearing their PE kit on this day (Year 6 will be

participating in their aerobics workout on Friday 25th May and can come to school in PE kit)

As it is Walk to School Week too, St Ursula’s are

encouraging all children to try walking, cycling, scooter or park and stride this week. The class that travels to school in the most eco friendly way will win a free 45min session

with Master Sifu Kee in Kung Fu.

We are all really excited about next week and look forward to your on going support.

Session 1 – 3.30-4.30pm (Children will need to be collected by 4.45pm) – £4

Session 2 – 4.30-6.00pm – £5.50

be resolved in the next few weeks.

All of the clubs can be booked online but no charges will be made through the website.

Session 1 – 3.30-4.30pm – £4
