USING OUR TIME WISELY

A jar of honey lasts practically forever. The oldest jar of honey ever discovered was over five thou-sand years old. Honey is quite different from market-fresh produce, then; because most fruits and vegetables last only a few days, we treat them carefully. At this time of summer, we rush to find recipes for cherries and cucumbers so we won’t waste a single one. We wouldn’t feel that same urgency about honey. In our own way, we are as delightful and fragile as ripe produce. Today’s readings urge us not to spoil, but to make good use of our limited time on earth. Ecclesiastes reminds us that because God provides for us now and always, we can manage our daily affairs without anxiety. HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE TALK

Many times we get so busy with what is going on in our lives. Work, family, etc. The readings this weekend remind us to not loose focus of God in our lives, no matter how busy we might be. I can certainly understand that it can be challenging trying to juggle all that we want or need to do. Once again, the readings this weekend remind us that all of us are called to not be distracted, whether it may be from material things, but to always have our focus on God. I would hope that all of us may never loose our focus from God in our lives, no matter what is going on in our lives Let us continue to pray so that all of us might always have God as the center of all that we do, Fr. Abel

PASTOR’S MESSAGE

The dogma of the Assumption of Mary – also called the “Dormition of Mary” in the Eastern Churches – has its roots in the early centuries of the Church. The Catholic Church teaches that when Mary ended her earthly life, God assumed her, body and soul into heaven.

P. Abel

Gospel: Lk 12:13-21

R. Alleluia, alleluia. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the king-dom of heaven. R. Alleluia, alleluia.

R. Aleluya, aleluya.

R. Aleluya.

Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.” He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?” Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of posses-sions.” Then he told them a parable. “There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest. He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’ And he said, ‘This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!”’ But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they be-long?’ Thus will it be for all who store up treas-ure for themselves but are not rich in what mat-ters to God.”

Monday: Nm 11:4b-15; Ps 81:12-17; Mt 14:13-21 Tuesday: Dn 7:9-10, 13-14; Ps 97:1-2, 5-6, 9; 2 Pt 1:16-19; Lk 9:28b-36 Wednesday: Nm 13:1-2, 25 — 14:1, 26-29a, 34-35; Ps 106:6-7ab, 13-14, 21-23; Mt 15:21-28 Thursday: Nm 20:1-13; Ps 95:1-2, 6-9; Mt 16:13-23 Friday: Dt 4:32-40; Ps 77:12-16, 21; Mt 16:24-28 Saturday: 2 Cor 9:6-10; Ps 112:1-2, 5-9; Jn 12:24-26 Sunday: Wis 18:6-9; Ps 33:1, 12, 18-22; Heb 11:1-2, 8-19 [1-2, 8-12]; Lk 12:32-48 [35-40]
