PASTORrsquoS MESSAGE

I along with a few members of St Peterrsquos have just

returned from our Synod Assembly of the

Metropolitan New York Synod The Assembly is an

annual gathering of leaders from the parishes of the

Metro Area lasting usually three days who vote on

legislation and elect leaders Every six years we

elect (or in the case of this year re-elect) a bishop

As you might imagine every time this comes

around the political activity and intrigue become

quite elevated

Bishop Rimbo was narrowly re-elected over Pr

Elise Brown (Advent Church Manhattan) on the

fifth ballot (225-216) This was the first year that

we utilized a slightly new process utilizing a

nominations process Our own Walter Wagner was

a member of the new Bishoprsquos Election Committee

The new process had some glitches but also added

some thoughtful spiritual framework for our

deliberations

After this process I find myself quite tired Irsquom

always tired after the Assembly but this year

particularly more so I joked several times during

the three days that Synod Assemblies are known for

three spirits the Holy Spirit liquid spirits and the

powers and principalities of the Devil It was meant

to be humorous but as with any humor itrsquos based

on the truth I am tired because with all that

politicking there are bad spirits floating around very

much trying to trip us up But at the same time

there was still the presence of the Holy Spirit

My tiredness has to do with combatting those bad

elements involved in church or any politics But

Irsquom sure it also has to do with the presence of the

Holy Spirit Wherever Satan is at work Godrsquos grace

is powerfully available Just as nasty as some of the

politics got the Holy Spirit was working even

harder And itrsquos not that the Holy Spirit canrsquot be

exhausting as well Itrsquos just a different type of

exhaustion The Holy Spirit working with us can

leave us drained but itrsquos a cleansing tiredness

When you get dog-tired struggling with things in

your life that yoursquore sure the evil one is giving you

a run for your money please remember that the

Holy Spirit is even there in a more influential way

As we come to the end of another school year we are both happy and sad Happy that we had such a fun and productive year We made new friends did many projects learned a whole lot sang songs and read books Sad that we have to move on Some of us to another school for kindergarten and some of us to a new class here But we will remember our friends and teachers and the wonderful experience we had here Our not-to-be-missed Stepping Up ceremonies are on Thursday June 12th and Friday June 13th We invite everyone to come and watch these wonderful children You will be delighted and amazed

for the children of our parish our Early Learning Center and our community

When Monday August 18th through Friday August 22nd 830 AM ndash 1200 PM each day (preschool students will be dismissed at 1130) Where St Peterrsquos Lutheran Church 2332 Grand Avenue Baldwin Cost $25 per child (cash or check made out to St Peterrsquos Lutheran Church) Fee covers the cost of the curriculum supplies and snacks

Our VBS program is available for children of Pre-School age (must be toilet

trained) through age 12

Jesus gives amazing grace
