FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR
Dear Friends in Christ,
Someone said to me the other day they think the end is coming. Many people believe the world is a ticking time-bomb because of the various threats from within and without. From a Biblical point of view, they are correct that the world will eventually come to an end; it’s just that none of us are privy to when this will occur.
In his 7th chapter of the First Letter to the Corinthians, it seems St. Paul is convinced that the end was imminent. And for this reason, he gives instruction regarding marriage and various life activities that in normal circumstances he would not have. It is not that he was predicting the day nor the hour but it is certainly evident that he thought it was soon. So essentially, this was crisis management. If Christ was coming as soon as he believed, then everything else must take a back seat in order to concentrate on preparation for that coming.
So it was not that St. Paul was denigrating marriage in any way. By the time he wrote the letter to the Ephesians, he had realized the permanency of the human situation and wrote of marriage as the most precious relationship in it. In fact, he considered marriage the only human relationship comparable to the relationship of Christ and the Church.
The Church continues to uphold the high dignity of marriage. For persons for whom God intends the married state there can be no higher calling. Through marriage and home life, we can learn the unselfish-ness which is prerequisite for becoming both a good spouse and a good Catholic Christian. Mitch Finley, who writes about marriage, wrote these words after 10 years of marriage to his wife Kathy:
“The vows I spoke ten years ago were, in retrospect, a far better thing than I had ever done. The ten calendar years that my life companion and I have lived together mark seasons of light and seasons of darkness, mostly of light. These ten years stand as a witness to the truth that marriage is our last best chance to grow up.”
On World Marriage Day which in this year coincides with Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2021, we take advantage of the opportunity to celebrate marriage as we bless all the married persons present at Church that weekend. We will also do the joyful exercise, through the process of elimination, to give roses to the longest married couple at each of our Masses.
May we pray always for strong marriages and families. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Gregg

Because all printed material has been removed from the Church due to coronavirus concerns, we are including below the music for today’s liturgy that you would normally find in our Journeysongs hymnal.
You are encouraged to pray these words along with the cantor (rather than sing them) during the pandemic.
ENTRANCE HYMN The Church’s One Foundation
AURELIA/Samuel S. Wesley
The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord; She is his new creation by water and the word: From heav’n he came and sought her to be his holy bride; With his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died.
Elect from ev’ry nation, yet one o’er all the earth, Her charter of salvation, “One Lord, one faith, one birth!” One holy Name she blesses, partakes one holy food, And to one hope she presses with ev’ry grace endued.
’Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war, She waits the consummation of peace forevermore, Till with the vision glorious her longing eyes are blest, And the great Church victorious shall be the Church at rest.
Yet she on earth hath union with God, the Three-in-One, And with the saints, communion with those whose rest is won. O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we Like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee.
Text: 76 76 D; Samuel J. Stone, 1839–1900, alt. Music: Samuel S. Wesley, 1810–1876.
COMMUNION SONG Pescador de Hombres/Lord, You Have Come
Cesáreo Gabaráin
1. Lord, you have come to the seashore, neither searching for the rich nor the wise, desiring only that I should follow.
Refrain: O, Lord, with your eyes set upon me, gently smiling, you have spoken my name; all I longed for I have found by the water, at your side, I will seek other shores.
2. Tú sabes bien lo que tengo; en mi barca no hay oro ni espadas, Tan sólo redes y mi trabajo.
Estribillo: Señor, me has mirado a los ojos, sonriendo has dicho mi nombre, en la arena he dejado mi barca, junto a ti buscaré otro mar.
3. Lord, take my hands and direct them. Help me spend myself in seeking the lost, returning love for the love you gave me. R/.
4. Tú, pescador de otros lagos, ansia eterna de almas que esperan, amigo bueno, que así me llamas. E/. R/.

PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS Come, My Way, My Truth, My Life
THE CALL / Ralph Vaughan Williams, George Herbert
Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life: Such a way as gives us breath; Such a truth as ends all strife; Such a life as killeth death.
Come, my Light, my Feast, my Strength: Such a light as shows a feast; Such a feast as mends in length; Such a strength as makes his guest.
Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart: Such a joy as none can move; Such a love as none can part; Such a heart as joys in love.
Text: 77 77; George Herbert, 1593–1632. Music: Ralph Vaughan Williams, 1872–1958.
FINAL HYMN
In Christ There Is No East or West McKEE
1. In Christ there is no east or west, in him no south or north; But one great fam’ly bound by love Throughout the whole wide earth.
2. In him shall true hearts ev’rywhere Their high communion find; His service is the golden cord close-binding humankind.
3. Join hands, disciples in the faith, Whate’er your race may be! Who serve each other in Christ‘s love are surely kin to me.
Text: CM; based on Galatians 3:28; John Oxenham, 1852–1941. Music: Spiritual; adapted by Harry T. Burleigh, 1866–1949.
At 11:00AM : Companions on the Journey
Carey Landry
Refrain: We are companions on the journey, breaking bread and sharing life; and in the love we bear is the hope we share for we believe in the love of our God, we believe in the love of our God.
We have been gifted with each other, and we are called by the Word of the Lord: to act with justice, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with our God, to walk humbly with our God.
Text: Based on Micah 6:8 and Matthew 7:7. Text and music © 1985, Carey Landry and OCP. All rights reserved.

OUR VERY OWN TOY STORY Each year we commit to Catholic Charities to provide Christmas gifts to approximately 500 needy kids. It has always been a joyous parish celebration beginning with choosing ornaments from the Giving Tree and culminating with Catholic Charities picking up the gifts to deliver to the various locations serving low-income, migrant, and recently re-housed homeless families as well as those in shelters. As with everything else, COVID upended our modus operandi. The usual turn-around time to collect, sort and allocate gifts is just over two weeks, and without the usual cadre of volunteers, we fretted we might not meet our commitment this year. And we had revamped the program with no real clue as to whether we would even get sufficient participation, especially with our current reduced attendance. We needn’t have worried!. As usual, our parishioners stepped up to the plate providing gifts, gift cards and cash. Glenn, a parishioner, donated boxes to pack the gifts; another, Mark, delivered literally hundreds of toys, all of them trendy. A local Publix store gave us all the proceeds of their annual toy drive. Staff and a few dedicated volunteers, notably Veronica and Nancy, shopped for gifts using the donated cash. We were able to meet nearly every child’s specific request, and had more than enough presents for all. In an otherwise forgettable year, y’all made 2020 a Christmas to remember. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
