HOLY FATHER’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR DECEMBER

Universal: End to Child-Soldiers That the scandal of child-soldiers may be eliminated the world over. Evangelization: Europe That the peoples of Europe may rediscover the beauty, goodness, and truth of the Gospel which gives joy and hope to life.

WHAT DID FR. LARRY SAY? “Not by appearance shall he judge, nor by hearsay shall he decide, but he shall judge the poor with justice, and decide aright for the land’s afflicted.” These words of the Prophet Isaiah remind us that during this holy season of Advent and Christmas, we are all called to the same mission as every Catholic, every Christian, since the coming of Jesus into the world. We are called to proclaim that we can’t earn

God’s love. It’s gift. It’s unconditional; and that’s Good News! As St. Paul wrote to the Romans: “May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to think in harmony with one another, in keeping with Christ Jesus, that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed you, for the glory of God.” In today’s world with all its’ divisions in society, religion, and politics, to just name a few, how do I follow what Paul taught; which is what Jesus taught? In his Apostolic Exhortation of just a few years ago, called “Evangelii Gaudium”, Pope Francis said the following: “Christians have the duty to proclaim the Gospel without excluding anyone. Instead of seeming to impose new obligations, they should appear as people who wish to share their joy, who point to a horizon of beauty and who invite others to a delicious banquet. It is not by proselytizing that the Church grows, but by attraction.” In other words, when others look at us, you and me, what do they see and hear: an invitation to a banquet filled with joy, or an invitation to a courtroom, where they’re judged as to their worthiness to be one of us? Something for all of us to think and pray about during Advent.

Warriors to Lourdes The 2017 Warriors to Lourdes Pilgrimage for Non-Wounded, Wounded, Ill or Injured Military Personnel during the 59th Annual International Military Pilgrimage (PMI) will take place May 16-23, 2017. The theme for the 59th PMI is Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace). The pilgrimage, sponsored by the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, and the Knights of Columbus, is the latest event in a long history of both organizations’ involvement in Lourdes and service to the military. For more information, visit www.warriorstolourdes.com

To be eligible for this pilgrimage, non-wounded, wounded, ill or injured military personnel applicants must be either serving on active duty or recently separated (post-9/11 era) from the United States Armed Forces. Applicants should be spiritually motivated to participate as a pilgrim.

The Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose has been a Knights of Columbus tradition for 56 years. In 1960, groups of Columbian Squires in Mexico, Canada and the United States decided to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe, under the mantle of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, by carrying a rose across North America from Canada to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico. In 2001 Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson, at the 119th Supreme Council Meeting in Toronto, addressed the effort in culture of life terms, referring to the Our Lady of Guadalupe - One Life, One Rose Program. He urged that it be expanded to every North American jurisdiction. Today six Silver Roses travel through North America exemplifying Knights of Columbus devotion to Our Lady and commitment to the Culture of Life.

In recent years the program has expanded from three to six silver roses traveling the western, central, and eastern corridors of North America, with Knights of Columbus from Canada to Mexico carrying the roses from destination to destination, and finally to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico.

Every stop along the route of the Silver Rose Pilgrimage is an occasion for prayer and spiritual renewal centered on the rosary. English, French and Spanish booklets containing recommended prayers, scripture readings and a litany accompany the Silver Rose.
