WHAT’S HAPPENING IN OUR PARISH

Grace this Week

Grace with lines inspired by the Readings for March 18, Fifth Sunday of Lent: Leader: Lord Jesus, we thank you for your Word. Through the prophet Jeremiah, You promise to dwell in our hearts. Such is the intimacy of Your love for us. (Jer.31:33) All: Lord Jesus, help me to recognize my sins and to turn back to you.

Devotions in 140

Based on the Archbishop’s selected reading for the

4th Sunday in Ordinary Time:

God so loved the world that he gave us His only Son,

that we may have eternal life. (Jn. 16)

Living in the Word ̶ The disciple lives from the mercy of God. The Lord calls

us precisely in our weakness, and mercifully bestows upon us all the gifts we need for the fulfillment of our

Christian calling. Our need for mercy is especially clear as we strive to do God's Word through worship, witness and service. True worship, especially through celebration of

the Eucharist, requires that we examine our way of living so as first to seek forgiveness and reconciliation

(cf. 1Corinthians 11:27-29). Credible witness demands that we be healed of any sinful ways of living that do not correspond to what we profess to believe. Joyful service of others arises when God's mercy heals us of sin that

closes us in upon ourselves. (Archbishop Smith, Pastoral Letter, September 14, 2017)

Teaching from our Holy Father

The Pope, as Bishop of Rome and successor of Peter, is the

visible and perpetual foundation of unity among the bishops and among

Christ's faithful. It is the Pope's role as Vicar of Christ and Pastor of the

entire Church to guide the community of Christ's faithful, to safeguard

them in the truth, and to confirm his brothers and sisters in the faith.

Dear Brothers and Sisters: In our catechesis on the Mass, we now turn to

the Eucharistic Prayer, in which, following the Lord’s command, we

repeat his words and actions at the Last Supper. In offering the bread and

wine which become his body and blood, we unite ourselves to his

sacrifice of reconciliation on the cross. The Eucharistic Prayer begins

with the Preface, which invites us to lift up our hearts in thanksgiving for

God’s blessings. The celebrant then calls down the Holy Spirit upon our

offerings, and, by the words of consecration, Christ becomes truly

present in the sacrament of his body and blood. As the memorial of the

mystery of the Lord’s death and resurrection, the Eucharistic prayer asks

that we may be drawn, in the Holy Spirit, into communion with one

another in the mystical Body of Christ, and united to the Son in his

eternal sacrifice of praise and intercession before the Father. At every

Mass, may we enter more fully into this “mystery of faith”, which brings

the forgiveness of sin, builds up the Church in unity and prays for the

reconciliation and peace of our entire human family.

Prayer for the Unborn The Knights of Columbus will once again distribute Prayer cards at

St. Mary’s Parish after all Masses, next weekend of March 24/25.

The late Archbishop Fulton Sheen developed this Prayer in an effort to

help stop the anti-life push in our world. He encouraged the spiritual

adoption of an unborn baby. This is accomplished by praying that one

particular, but unknown child’s life would be saved from the tragedy of

abortion and allowed to continue to live in the mother’s womb until

child birth. It is recommended that individuals say the daily prayer, as

a Novena, for nine months, beginning at the Annunciation of the Lord

to the Blessed Virgin Mary on March 25, and finishing on the feast of

Our Saviour’s Birth on December 25. Every year in the world, it is

estimated that 42 million lives are lost through abortion alone. Please

consider joining this Novena initiative.
