Build a Responsive and Shared Leadership Structure

These pillars have served our Faith Family extremely well during these five years and are expected to do so as we continue our spiritual journey.

We believed it was necessary to develop a 21st century operating model to implement the third pillar, and so we established a Parish Operating Council (POC). I am happy to report that the POC has provided excellent support and advice to me throughout this period, introducing a number of high-quality programs, and doing so in a timely, responsive nner.

O God of Creation, you have

blessed us with the changing of

the seasons.

As we welcome the autumn

months,

the breath of life.

that death is temporary and life

is eternal.

We praise you for your goodness

Are You Ready?

“WATCH THEREFORE, FOR YOU KNOW NEITHER

THE DAY NOR THE HOUR” (Matt 25:13)

We are gradually coming to the end of the liturgical year. The

Church uses this opportunity also remind us of the end of our

earthly life and the beginning of another life. The way we live

now determines the way we shall die and where we shall

spend our eternity. It is not going to be a magic; it may not be

possible for one to live badly and spend eternity in God’s

kingdom. Yes, it is true that some people get redeemed late in

life, before they die. The thief who was hanging on the cross with Jesus and got saved could be

considered the patron of those. Yet, it is not certain that everyone would have such an amazing

opportunity. That is why we are called today to make haste while the sun is shining.

Wisdom lies in knowing that we are not sure of the next minute. As it was possible that I may not

have the time to conclude this reflection before God calls me, it is also possible that you may be

called home at this moment you are reading this message. If that happens, are you going to be

among the wise virgins who were ready for the bridegroom or among the foolish ones who thought

they have all the time to go and make late preparations?

St. Paul reminds us that all of us who die in Christ will rise with him. Those who are also alive in

him at his coming, will be taken with him at his coming. Are you alive in him? This is the only hour

of grace that is sure. Make use of it while you still can. Confess your sins today and get back to the

sacrament. The Lord is waiting for you. He loves you and he is inviting you to share in the fullness

of that love. Are you not going to accept the invitation?

May the Lord himself, who is wisdom par excellence, fill us with wisdom so that we may know the shortness of our lives and live well so as to meet him well when he calls us from this life. Amen.

Have a grace-filled Sunday. Peace be with you. Fr. John Bosco www.fadajbcezeonwumelu.com

FAITH FORMATION CORNER Top 10 Reasons to go to Confession

1. Confidentiality guaranteed. There’s nothing like confessing your sins to someone guaranteed not to tell anyone else. Sometimes you need to talk in absolute confidence. Even under subpoena, a priest can’t tell anyone what’s said to him in confession. He can’t even hint at it. Now that’s confidentiality. 2. Housekeeping for the soul. It feels good to be able to start a clean life all over again. Like going into a sparkling living room in your home, it’s nice when clutter is removed – even if it’s your own. 3. A balm for the desire for revenge. When you have been forgiven you can forgive others. If the perfect Jesus forgives me, who am I to want to avenge the slights in my life. Think: “Why did they promote him over me?’ or “Mom played favorites!” 4. Low cost therapy. It’s free, which makes it cheaper than a psychiatrist for dealing with guilt. 5. Forced time to think. Socrates said that the unexamined life is not worth living. To examine our lives and acknowledge failings marks the first step of making things right with God, others and ourselves. Life can be more worth living when you ponder the meaning of your own life. 6. Contribution toward world peace. Gaudium et Spes, the Second Vatican Council’s Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, said that the imbalances in the world that lead to war and tensions “are linked with that more basic imbalance which is rooted in the heart of man.” Peace of soul leads to peace of heart leads to peace beyond oneself. 7. A better neighborhood. Confession leaves you feeling good about yourself, thereby cutting back the inclination to road rage and aggressive shopping cart driving. With the grace of the sacrament you’re energized to, as Jesus said to the woman caught in adultery, “go and sin no more.” 8. Realistic self-perception. Confession helps overcome arrogance when you have to admit you’re as much of a sinner as anyone else. It helps build tolerance for others’ perceived shortcomings. 9. One more benefit of being Catholic. There are lots of benefits, including a sense of community, liturgical rites to help us encounter God in prayer, and the

wonderful sense of humanity exemplified in the saints, from Mary, the loving Mother of God, to Augustine, the exasperating son of Monica. The sacrament that leads us to inner peace is among the greatest boons. 10. Closeness to God. Confession helps you realize that you have a close connection to God and receive his grace through the sacraments. What can be better than knowing God’s on your team, or, to be less arrogant about it, that you are on God’s. usccbmedia.blogspot.com

Remembrances at SMS Masses As many of you may know, the month of November in the Catholic tradition is a time in which we remember those who have died. In particular, November 2nd is “All Souls’ Day”, the day in our liturgical calendar specifically dedicated to praying for the dead.

We invite you to share the names of loved ones who have passed that you would like our school community to pray for during our November school Masses. All names will be placed in a basket close to the altar for the month of November as a reminder to the entire community to keep those dear to you in our thoughts and prayers. Please use this link to provide the names of your beloved deceased. We will begin taking applications for the 2021-2022 school year shortly. We would love to tell you more about what makes Saint Mary School so special. For more information, please contact Anna O’Rourke at (203) 438-7288, or visit

PARISH OFFICE

The Parish office is currently closed but you may email or call for routine matters (including the purchase of Mass Cards) and our receptionist will get back to you as soon as possible. If there is an emergency, call the office and clergy will get back to you immediately.
