“God does not accept the sacrifice of a sower of disunion, but commands that he depart

from the altar so that he may first be reconciled with his brother . For God can be appeased only by prayers that make peace. To

God, the better offering is peace, brotherly concord and a people made one in unity of the Father, Son and holy Ghost.” - St. Cyprian, Bishop

& martyr. (Pe Dom, orat. .23:PL4, 535-536)

Welcome to St. Mary’s Oratory

With the gracious permission of Bishop David Malloy, Bishop of Rockford, the ex-traordinary form of Holy Mass is offered at St. Mary by the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. We are pleased to have you join us in this venerable act of worship and invite you to return often.

In the traditional Mass everyone has his proper role whether it be celebrant, choir, server, usher, or congregation. At High Mass, the choir makes all responses simply because that is their function. The congregation, on the other hand, responds internally, as opposed to vocal-ly, and this is still, according to Pope Pius XII in his encyclical “Mediator Dei” active participation. Active participation is wide-ranging, such as singing, silent meditation or even recitation of the Ro-sary during Mass, because active partici-pation does not necessitate vocal re-sponses but unity of intent with the cele-brant (priest). To assist at Mass more fully, use the missals provided in the pews, paying particular attention to any notes in the margin. All the “propers,” scriptural parts of the Mass, proper to the day. These can be found in the bulle-tin. Simply follow those around you as to when one should stand, sit, or kneel. Lastly, please keep a “holy silence” in the church at all times, out of respect for Christ’s presence in the tabernacle. Since there is no mixing of the old and new rites, Holy Communion is to be received on the tongue while kneeling at the altar rail. the response “Amen” is not said by the communicant when receiving the Host.

A kind reminder: Only Catholics in the state of grace (not have commit-ted a grave sin) and having fasted for

1 hour, are free to receive Holy Communion.

WHAT: Bulletin blocks will be available in order to raise the funds needed to repair, prime and paint St. Mary Oratory ceiling. WHO: You may buy blocks for personal messages or solicit advertising from businesses or groups you support.

All donations

from this bulletin oppor-

tunity will be go-ing toward the much needed

ceiling repair to St. Mary Oratory.

We thank our generous advertis-ers who cover the bulletin printing costs which are on a separate suggest-ed donation scale. Please thank them and support them.
