Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends In the readings we are commanded to love one another. Jesus tells us in the Gospel that through living in love we will have complete joy! Attend a Marriage Encounter to gain the tools to truly love your spouse more and receive the joy that it can bring. Strengthen, renew, and rekindle your marriage sacrament by attending a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend on May 29 - 31, 2015, July 10 - 12, 2015 and September 19 - 20, 2015. For more information call Jim and Elaine Richard at 1-800-710-WWME or visit our webpage at www.wwme.org

6th Sunday of Easter "It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain." We sometimes tend to believe the opposite. It's not unusual for us to think, "I have chosen to be a Christian," and then to imagine that the process really started with us, that it was our initiative, our decision to believe, our act of faith that got the ball rolling in our spiritual life. Of course our deci-sion is important, but Jesus reminds us today that he is actually the one who took the first step. He chose us. He called and invited us to be among his followers and friends. As the second reading tells us, "God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him." That happened first. The next step is ours, to accept this life that is offered to us through our own act of faith.

The other part of this equation is that, as Jesus tells us, we have been chosen for a mission. This isn't all just about our personal faith and our relationship with him. He calls us to know and love him, and when we respond, we are "appointed" to be fruitful in the world. We are supposed to live our faith in such a way that something valuable, beautiful, and useful comes from it. Jesus sends us to make the world a better place, not in a vague, feel-good, fluffy way but in a real, concrete way. He equips us to bear fruit that will remain. This isn't superficial or flighty. The work we do in the world--whether it be alleviating the suffering of the sick and poor, evangelizing those who do not know about the gift of salvation, raising our children to be faithful Christians, or carrying out our career with integrity and generosity--all of this is meant to be the effect of our response to the call that Jesus gave us.

Ministry to Visit the Homebound Has Grown! We reach out to approximately 50 people now, most once a week, several once a month. These people are all located around the Nashua area, however they are no longer able to make it to mass. We could use more help with this very important task, bringing Communion to the sick. If you would like to join us in these efforts, please call Carmen Dussault at the rectory office. She will be happy to go over the schedule and procedure with you. Thank you!

Additional First Communion Preparation Classes We are adding two additional First Communion Preparation Classes that will take place on Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in Milette Manor once the regular Faith Formation program ends. These two sessions will be held on May 7th and May 14th.

At our parent meeting back in the fall, we emphasized that to make the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion, students MUST attend all Saturday Sacramental Preparation Classes. Unfortunately, many students have missed one or more of these Saturday classes. In an effort to provide the instruction needed, and to allow these students to make these sacraments this year, we are adding these two sessions.

If your child missed one or more Saturday classes, he/she must be present on May 7th and May 14th or they will not be able to make the sacrament this year. If your child attended ALL Saturday sessions, they do not need to come for these two additional Thursday classes.

Finally, ALL CHILDREN must attend the day of First Reconciliation which has been moved to Thursday, May 28th from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. On this day, the students will go to church for First Reconciliation and will also have a rehearsal so they will know what they are going to do on the day of First Communion.

Mother's Day This year the annual celebration of Mother's Day occurs on the Fourth Sunday of Easter. What a wonderful day to celebrate those women in our lives who cooperated with God to create new life and those in our lives who have nurtured our lives with love and compassion. Yes, we believe that when we are open to children we have cooperated with God in creation. In addition, those women who have said yes should be recognized. The “Book of Blessings” has a profound blessing of mothers that recognizes that all blessings come from God.

The most recognized date for the first Mother's Day in our country was in 1908. It was created by Anna Jaris. She worked tirelessly to make this day a national day in the United States. She even incorporated herself as "Mother's Day International Association" and worked for the rest of her life against the commercialism that had taken over her commemorative day. There are many instances of marking certain days for mothers in world history. However, for us it has deeper meaning because it falls during the Marian month of May. We hold our earthly mothers in high esteem and hold our heavenly mother, the Virgin Mary, in high esteem also.

This Mother's Day take some real time and thank your Mom with more than just a box of candy.

Youth Ministry News If you haven’t been able to help our youth group, you still have time to do so. The youth group meetings will continue until the end of June and we still need the help of all of those who want to cooperate by cooking us dinner on Friday evening or Sunday evening. If you are able to be of assistance, please contact Monica at [email protected]. Thank you all for all your help. God bless you!
