A Note from Fr. Craig

Dear Parishioners, I hope you are having a good month of August. It is hard to believe we are half way through the month. We are busy trying to figure out how we will do Religious Education this year for our families. Stay tuned and pray for all. Our school, St Pius/St Leo still plans on starting August 20th with in person learning. They will be doing social distancing and wearing masks. I do want to thank you for wearing masks here at Church. It gives me a sense of safety for all. I don’t know if I could win the fight if I get the virus being a diabetic and heart patient. We are getting more people coming to Mass. You may want to get here a little early to have the time to find a pew that gives you the space needed. We are asking everyone to be 6 feet apart from the next family in the pew. Our Church currently can hold around 145 individuals with social distancing. A reminder that the dispensation from attending Mass is still happening. You are not required to attend Sunday Mass or Holy Days. Have a great week. Fr. Craig

In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness

By: Deacon Jim Shipman

Sometimes in our lives we are faced with situations that are so extreme that we are frantic to find a solution. In those moments of desperation, we will do just about anything to bring this situation to a good conclusion.

In our Gospel today, Jesus is con-fronted by a desperate Canaanite woman who is seeking healing for her daughter. In that era, the Jews and Canaanites did not talk or associate with one another. How-ever, this woman was desperate, and three times she begged Jesus to use His power to cast the demon from her daughter. Jesus tested her faith and trust in God, even to the point of insulting her. He said, “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.” The woman was not even phased, replied, “even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters." Seeing her faith in God, Jesus heals her daughter.

The important lessons we need to learn from our scriptures is that we need to be persistent in our pray-ers and know that God loves all of us very much even when we have been away from Him. Also, Our Lord will test at times to confirm if we are really serious about our faith and belief in Him. We cannot approach God expecting instant gratification, get what we want and then walk away. We must place ALL our trust and faith in Je-sus Christ. Then when we have those frantic situations, our faith will give us the confidence to know Our Lord will answer our prayers in ways that will bring us closer to Him and His never ending love.

The 54 Day Novena for Our Nation - Every evening at 6:30 in the Holy Family Garden - Starting on Saturday, August 15 (The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) and ending on October 7 (Our La-dy of the Rosary). All are invited to attend.
