Q. I was in the last pew of the Church last Sunday when it was raining. Water was pouring down on the pew and it was unusable. What’s going on? A. We not only had rain water in the last pew but it was also in the choir loft, in the priest’s sacristy, etc. We have a serious roof problem on our church. We have just been informed that the Church roof needs to be replaced. We already had to “value engineer” our re-building project for the Church and the Academy. That means

certain elements of the projects were eliminated in favor of others. We were NOT planning to replace the entire church roof. However, it seems that it is now necessary to do so. Fortunately, we are mobilized to do so. The scaffolding is in place and it seems like now is the time. We were just planning to repair the parts of the roof that have been problematic. Now it’s an entirely new roof! The Re-Building St. Kevin Campaign needs your help! Please consider a pledge if you have not already done so. Please continue the monthly payments if you have already made a pledge. PLEASE pray that we can bring this project to a successful conclusion. I’m counting on your prayers and continued support.

A Sincere Word of Gratitude… On the occasion of my 50th Anniversary of Profession as an Apostolic Oblate, I am deeply grateful for the beautiful show of love and support I received not only from those who were able to join me for Vespers and dinners, but many of you who stopped me and congratulated me. I am thankful for each and everyone of you parishioners of St. Kevin, co-workers, friends. Your presence in my life has been a tremendous source of joy and inspiration. I fill honored in serving you. Special thanks to the love and support of our Pastor Bishop Chappetto, and for all our priests, seminarians and deacon, who support me on my journey of faith. I count on your prayers that I may grow closer to Jesus daily and remain faithful to my vocation to live fully the gospel of love and holiness. Even more, in the spirit of my Founder, Bishop Giaquinta, I pray with all my heart that we will be saints together for the glory of God! Thank you! Agnes Rus, AO

Prayer for Vocations - Bishop DiMarzio Lord of the Harvest, we petition you as you have instructed us to ask for more laborers to serve in the vineyard of Your Church. You have told us that the harvest is rich and laborers are few and we experience this great need in the face of the challenge of the New Evangelization. We ask the Holy Spirit to inspire young men and women to seriously consider vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Help all of us to be effective instruments to encourage and support those whom you are calling to serve and lead the Church of Brooklyn and Queens in the future. Lord, you told the Apostles to put out into the deep. We ask for the grace and courage to accept your call as we pray and work for an increase in vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and religious live. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, the Great High Priest……….Amen

The Mommy & Me children had fun celebrating Halloween!

The Sound of Communion The priest receives Holy Communion, and then there is movement, a bustle of activity, as we prepare to join the Communion procession. This holy meal does not happen in silence! Instead, we sing together even as we rise and move forward in procession to the altar. We must change and move to receive the Eucharist, and fittingly so, since the Eucharist is transformative, it demands action of us, internal as well as external. We do not receive the sacrament in silence, but with a dialogue that is also a profession of faith: “The Body of Christ.” “Amen.” “The Blood of Christ.” “Amen.” We acknowledge the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist with our “Amen” of faith, but more, our “Amen” is also a prayer that we may become what we receive, the Body of Christ, living and active in the world. We receive him not that he may become a part of us, but that we may become a part of him—part, too, of all the others who receive him, the whole communion of believers.
