Reminiscence: Welcome to the most holy of all the ‘holy weeks.’ This Sunday we begin the prayer of Holy Week as Jesus enters Jerusalem on the back of a donkey, accom-panied by crowds shouting joyfully ‘Hosanna!’ and waving palm branches. Very soon, the mood of the people changes and their cry is ‘Crucify him!’ (Gospel). We accompany Jesus as he goes to his death.
The WORD of GOD: The other readings help us to understand what is happening. We see that Jesus fulfils the Old Testament prophe-cies of the suffering servant from Isaiah; in
the face of his Passion, he knows and trusts that the Father will help him (1st Read-ing).
Psalm 21 (22) moves from utter dejection: ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’ to praise and trust in God: ‘Give him praise ... revere him’! You may wish to read the whole psalm from your Bible during Holy Week to understand the prayer that Jesus prayed from the cross. St Paul’s explanation of the meaning of Jesus’s incarnation, death and Resurrection ends with a firm declaration of faith that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father (2nd Reading). Even as we walk in sor-row with Jesus this Holy Week, we look forward to Easter joy in the Resurrection.
The CHALLENGE: Try not to be vindictive to your friends and to others who offend you. Instead, show your humility to maintain their friendship with you, and your friend-ship with them.
The PRAYER: Lord, grant me the grace to imitate you in your sufferings and crucifix-ion, in preparation for Easter - your resurrection from the dead, and rising to new life for me, for my friends, for my enemies, for the entire humanity. AMEN!

GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION 2019 The annual Good Friday collection is for the sup-port of the church in the Holy Land. The collection promotes the missionary work of the Church in the Holy Land by providing welfare assistance to locals in areas such as health, education, employment, and housing. The collection is also used to main-tain over 70 churches and shrines associated with the life of Jesus. Please remember the Christians of the Holy Land again this Good Friday.

2019 ANZAC Eve Mass of Remembrance Sydneysiders are invited to join Archbishop Antho-ny Fisher OP, active and retired members of the Defence Force for Mass, prayer and reflection on the Eve of ANZAC Day.
