Our Mission Statement
As committed Christians of the Roman Catholic Church in Richmond, Indiana, we are a com-
munity, centered in Christ, rooted in the Eucharistic communion, journeying together in our call
to be holy, constantly discerning the charisms of the Spirit,
making one another disciples of Christ and seeking God’s kingdom
in service, stewardship and charity.
“Our Church teaches that all human life is sacred
and inviolable. We are especially conscious of the
need to protect the lives of those who are most
vulnerable: the unborn, infants and children, the
elderly and infirm, migrants and refugees. But we
are challenged to safeguard all human life, includ-
ing our enemies… who would do us harm.
That’s why we oppose the death penalty. It’s also
why we make prison ministry a priority in our
archdiocese. All life is sacred. No exceptions.”

SAT The Conversion of St. Paul, The Apostle
Last week we celebrated the feast of the Baptism of Our Lord. This week’s gospel serves as a sequel to that event. Jesus comes to John the Baptist, as it were for a second time. John says, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world…” These same words, we actually repeat at every Mass. John the Baptist gives a true witness to Jesus. In his words, we have a clear and unambiguous testimony — that he saw the Spirit de-scending on Him and that Jesus was truly the Son of God. John was a trustworthy person in many respects. He is the last of the prophets and is closely related to Jesus in terms of a direct preaching about Jesus his subsequent preparation for Him. Now, it does not mean that Jesus did not have the Spirit until his baptism, nor did Jesus require the Spirit only un-til after he turned an adult to justify the argument for not baptizing children until they are able to choose what they want to believe. The Spirit descended in order to mani-fest Jesus to the world (St. Augustine). In His human na-ture, Jesus received the Spirit on our behalf (St. Cyril). Jesus’ baptism also reveals the mystery of God as Trinity. John has an important message for us for the work of witnessing to God’s love for the whole world in Jesus. As the Second Vatican Council taught in 1965, “All Chris-tians by the example of their lives and the witness of the word, wherever they live, have an obligation to manifest the new man which they put on in Baptism, and to reveal the power of the Holy Spirit by whom they were strength-ened at Confirmation, so that others, seeing their good works, might glorify the Father and more perfectly per-ceive the true meaning of human life and the universal solidarity of mankind” (Ad gentes, 11). Witnessing to Christ in a meaningful way is possible by witnessing to the Church that is the Body of Christ. Like in Jesus, the Spirit descended on the Church on the day of Pentecost. Now, we as the Church are called to be in the place of Jesus, to go about doing good to the world for the sake of bringing everyone to God’s merciful love. We are not mere agents of Church to evangelize, we are disciples and thus have a sacred duty to preach His name. In love of Christ and his Holy Church,

Meet our Musicians
Dr. Jessica Raposo’s first “gig” in music ministry was at age 4, standing on a bench to turn pag-es for her church organist. She likes to think that her protest of the injustice that children were not allowed to sing in the choir led to her pastor founding a chil-dren’s choir, which she promptly joined. This, combined with her
ability to carry a tune and improvise a harmony (and a few music degrees along the way), began a now 38-year passion for music ministry for which she has sung, played, conducted and/or directed at almost every parish she regularly attended (plus a few oth-ers, in four different countries). When she is not play-ing and singing for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, she is a professional flutist and an assistant professor of music at Indiana University East.

Mensaje por el Padre Sengole Gnanaraj
Fr. Sengole Gnanaraj
to de Cristo.
cielo.

Totus Tuus—- What is it? Save the Date: July 19th-24th
Totus Tuus is a program run across the nation and endorsed by the Archdi-
ocese of Indianapolis. A group of well-trained, young adult Catholics come
to our parish to run a ‘Catholic Vacation Bible School’ for children in grades
1st-6th grade from 9am-2pm every day. Children experience dynamic pro-
gramming that better helps them understand the im-
portance of Christ and His Church in their lives. In
the evenings, these TOTUS TUUS young adults also
run a youth ministry program that will connect with
the teens of our parish.
*We are in great need of parishioners who will offer
their homes to our Totus Tuus team so they have a
place to stay for the week.
Ralph Martin, an internationally known Catholic
leader and teacher, discusses the challenges and
the joys of being fully faithful to all the Church
proclaims as true. Ralph provides practical advice
about building our lives on rock and equipping
ourselves spiritually so that we can reach out to
others with true charity. He shows how our fidel-
ity to the Word of God will give us the strength
to stand victorious in our difficult times.
