Sunday’s 7:30 am Mass Returns Beginning on Sunday, Feb. 2, we will reinstitute the Sunday morning 7:30 am Mass. This will be a bi-lingual Mass – English & Latin (the post-Vatican II Mass). No music. Fr. Mark wants to use a little Latin so we don’t lose our Latin heritage.
Sunday Spanish Mass Once a Month Starting February 2nd, the first Sunday of each month, we will have a Mass in Spanish at 1pm. If this Mass is consistently well attended, we will consider adding a weekly Sunday, Spanish Mass.
Contribution Envelopes Many of you have not received your contribution envelopes. There was a problem with the postal service and several parishes in the area were affected. They have reprinted our envelopes and mailed them out. If you have not received your envelope packet yet it should be forthcoming in the next couple of days. They asked that we let you know that you will more than likely receive the original shipment also. Feel free to throw away any duplicate sets you may receive. They apologized for the inconvenience and thanked us for alerting them to the issue.
FIND YOUR GREATNESS A half-day event:
Sunday, January 19, 2020 2:30-6:30 pm
Odessa Marriott Hotel & Convention Center
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish is teaming up with Catholic Charities of Odessa and DYNAMIC CATHOLIC to present a half-day workshop entitled FIND YOUR GREATNESS. Based on Matthew Kelly’s book THE FOUR SIGNS OF A DYNAMIC CATHOLIC. This half-day event will introduce you to four simple habits that will help you reach your full potential. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at DynamicCatholic.com or call 859-980-7900. (If cost is a problem, contact Fr. Mark or Fr.
Tim).
7:30 Sunday Mass: Why Latin/English? By Fr. Mark The 7:30 Sunday Mass beginning Feb. 2 will be the Mass as reformed after Vatican II, in other words like all our other Masses except it will be in Latin as well as English. I have several reasons for trying this experiment.
1) Latin is our heritage as Roman Catholics.
We older Catholics knew many of the Mass
prayers in Latin. Maybe this bi-lingual
Mass will stimulate a new generation of
Catholics to love the Latin as we did.
2) A growing number of priests and lay
people are finding something deeply
spiritual in Mass in Latin. We will use the
Ordinary Form which I think has
advantages over the old Tridentine Mass.
Pope’s January Intention Promotion of World Peace We pray that Christians, followers of other religions, and all people of goodwill may promote peace and justice in the world.
Special Thanks for $87k Bequest We made a larger-than-normal payment on our debt for the month of December, thanks to a wonderful bequest made to the parish by the late parishioner Frank Minski. He left $87,000 to the parish in his will. Please remember him in your prayers…and remember, giving to St. Elizabeth’s in your will is a viable option to help support the needs and mission of the parish.
PROJECT ANDREW DINNER Fr. Mark and Fr. Tim are looking for young men, ages 15-35, who might be thinking of the priesthood. Contact either of us at 432-367-4657. Bishop Sis is holding a Project Andrew Dinner in March and we want to invite you to it!
MINISTRY FAIR Become the best version of yourself! Join a parish ministry this year! We are holding a Ministry Fair after all the Masses on January
25th & 26th. Representatives from each ministry will be in the Narthex of the church to answer any questions and take sign-ups.
Help support your parish by using the gifts God has endowed upon you.

THIS IS MY BELOVED SON This Sunday’s celebration of the Baptism of the Lord closes the Christmas season. In the scriptures we see one more epiphany, or manifestation, of the Spirit of God in Jesus—but this time it is as an adult, rather than as a child. Jesus’ baptism also serves as the inauguration of his prophetic mission and the messianic age. Today’s reading from Isaiah describes God’s chosen Messiah, upon whom God’s spirit rests. In the Acts of the Apostles Peter says that “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power” (Acts 10:38). Finally, in the
proclamation from Matthew’s Gospel Jesus’ baptism in water goes almost unnoticed. The crucial moment comes when the Spirit of God comes upon Jesus and a voice from heaven echoes the words of Isaiah: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
