29th Sunday Ordinary Time ~ WORLD MISSION SUNDAY ~ We all like stories about the ‘little guy’ beating the ‘big guy’ in a struggle. This is the biblical ‘David and Goliath’ story in yet another form. There is a deep sense of justice, of right, of good winning over bad. This story satisfies on the deepest levels. Today such a fight takes place with a mighty judge and not just a woman (the odds are already against her); but a widow. That means she has no property, no money, no power. Some

injustice has been done to her. The judge, however, seems to be siding with the forces that be - the money powers; since Jesus describes him as a corrupt judge. That usually means one is taking bribes and so they will decide in favor of those who can pay. Therefore, this woman would have no chance. But there is something powerful about someone who really believes in their point of view or their case. Even without any power, probably not even the means to have a lawyer, she keeps coming to the court – day after day! She keeps shouting out her case – day after day! She keeps telling the judge and anyone she can about the injustice as she seeks justice from the court – day after day! Persistence, conviction, self-confidence, need, hope and the willingness to fight on to victory are the stuff that keep her going. The judge’s corruption, his greed and concern only for himself, prove no contest to this woman’s honest fight. She would not give up until justice was done! THIS is the example Jesus gives for prayer. Pray always! Do not become weary of prayer! Ask again, and again, and again, and again, andE This is what it means to pray. The point is not the number of times. The point is not even just what we ask for. That can change as we ask. That can become more clear as we keep praying. Sometimes we realize we are asking for the wrong thing. In order to be so persistent and to keep at it again and again and again – we have to believe in ourselves, our need, our prayer. Therein lies the power. This also verifies what Jesus consistently says at every healing. He always turns to the person and finally says: “Your faith has saved you. You faith has healed you.” At the end of this parable Jesus winds it all up with the real issue – the real question. “But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

parish. Although it may sound a little ‘gimmicky’ to call it the “I ♥ St. Bernie” collection, in truth, it actually is a way to love our parish. Just like in each of your homes, every penny counts. When things are good and stable we operate with ease. When things are tight, we squeeze and scrimp to make ends meet. This collection makes it a little easier to function; a little easier to make ends meet. SoE start saving. November 10th is the date! That weekend we have our $100 collection. ALL SOULS NOVENA OF MASSES — The Annual Novena of Masses for the deceased whose names are given to us, will begin here on Saturday, November 2. The envelopes for the names are on the tables near the altar and at the exits of the church.

They can be turned in the collection basket or at the church office.

A “DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS” Altar will be displayed starting this Saturday, October 26. Please bring in photos of your deceased loved ones. Write your name & phone number on the back for its return.

ALL SOULS DAY — Join us on Saturday, November 2, at the 8:00AM bilingual Mass to remember our deceased loved ones. During the Mass, you will be asked to place the names of your

loved ones in front of the Altar during the Offertory. NOTE: Candles will be available for sale at $5.00 each during the Mass. They will

remain lit in the Vestibule, and you may take them home after Mass.

Domingo 29 del Tiempo Ordinario ~ DOMINGO MUNDIAL DE LAS MISIONES — A todos nos gustan las historias sobre el ‘pequeño individuo’ que vence al 'grandote’ en una lucha. Esta es la historia bíblica de 'David y Goliat' de otra forma. Hay un profundo sentido de la justicia, de lo correcto, del bien que triunfa sobre el mal. Esta historia satisface en los niveles más profundos. Hoy tal lucha se lleva a cabo entre un juez poderoso y una mujer; y no solo una mujer (las probabilidades ya están en contra de ella);

sino una viuda. Eso significa que no tiene ninguna propiedad, dinero, ni poder. Se ha cometido una injusticia en contra de ella. Sin embargo, el juez se pone del lado del poder del dinero; ya que Jesús lo describe como un juez corrupto. Eso generalmente significa que está siendo sobornado por lo tanto, decidirá a favor de los que pueden pagar. Por ese motivo, esta mujer no tendría ninguna posibilidad. Pero hay algo poderoso de alguien que verdaderamente cree en su punto de vista o su caso. Incluso sin poder alguno, probablemente sin tener siquiera los medios para tener un abogado, ella sigue llendo a la corte, todos los días! Pide a gritos que se le escuche. Sigue diciendo al juez y a las personas que se atraviesan en su camino sobre la injusticia de la que es objeto mientras busca la justicia de la corte día con día! La persistencia, la convicción, la confianza en sí misma, la necesidad, la esperanza y la voluntad de luchar hasta la victoria son las cosas que mantienen su lucha. La corrupción del juez, su codicia y preocupación sólo por el mismo no muestra contienda alguna en comparación con la lucha honesta de esta mujer. No descansará hasta que se le haga justicia! ESTE es el ejemplo que Jesús da para la oración. Orar siempre! No cansarse de la orar! Pedir una y otra vez, y otra, y otra, y otra vez, y ... Esto es lo que significa orar. No tanto el número de veces. El punto no es ni siquiera lo que pedimos. Eso puede cambiar a medida que pedimos. Puede aclararse a medida que sigamos orando. A veces nos damos cuenta de que estamos pidiendo lo que no deberíamos pedir. A fin de ser tan persistentes y seguir pidiendo lo mismo una y otra vez, y otra vez, tenemos que creer en nosotros mismos, en nuestras necesidades, nuestra oración. En ello radica el poder. Esto también verifica lo que dice Jesús consecuentemente en toda sanación. Él siempre voltea hacia la persona y le dice: "Tu fe te ha salvado. Tu fe te ha

sanado" Al final de esta parábola Jesús arregla todo el asunto — la pregunta correcta. "Pero cuando venga el Hijo del

Nuestra última colecta "Yo Amo a San Berni” 2019 será el Domingo, 10 de Noviembre. Esta es la colecta #4, de $100. Algunas personas dan los $100 juntos. Algunos dan solo lo que pueden. Todo es bienvenido. Todo ayuda! Aunque pueda parecer un truco llamarle la colecta "Yo amo a San Berni", en realidad es una manera de amar a nuestra parroquia. Al

igual que en sus hogares, cada centavo cuenta. Cuando las cosas son estables operamos con facilidad y cuando están algo difíciles, escatimamos para llegar al fin de mes. Esta colecta facilita el funcionamiento de la parroquia. Empieza a ahorrar para el 10 de Noviembre. Ese fin de semana tendremos nuestra colecta de $100. Sabía Usted — Conozca las señales de la negación La negación es un mecanismo de defensa comúnmente usado

por las víctimas de abuso. Debido a que quieren creer que las

cosas volverán a ser normales, las víctimas por lo regular se

sienten atrapadas en el hecho de haber permitido que la

situación se desarrollara. El miedo al cambio puede ser

abrumador, especialmente si la víctima ha sido manipulada por

su abusador o abusadora. Las víctimas también pueden tener

dificultades para aceptar lo que está pasando porque su abusador

es alguien cercano, como un miembro o amigo de la familia. Es

importante reconocer las señales de negación y cómo romper

esas barreras que evitan que la víctima tenga una verdadera

they want to believe that things will go back to normal, victims often feel

trapped into just allowing the situation to play out. Fear of change can be

overwhelming, especially if the victim has been manipulated by his or her

abuser. Victims may also struggle with accepting what’s happening

because they know their abuser closely, as a family member or friend. It’s

important to recognize the signs of denial and how to break through those

La Novena Anual de Misas para los difuntos, cuyos nombres nos entreguen comenzará el Sábado, 2 de Noviembre. Los sobres especiales se encuentran en las mesas junto al altar y a las puertas de la iglesia. Los pueden depositar en la canasta

de la colecta o entregar en la oficina de a Iglesia.

Un Altar para el “DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS” será expuesto a partir del 26 de Octubre. Por favor traiga las fotos de sus seres queridos fallecidos. Escriba su nombre y número de teléfono en la parte posterior para su devolución.

DÍA DE LOS FIELES DIFUNTOS — Únase a nosotros a la Misa bilingüe el Sábado, 2 de Noviembre a las 8:00AM para recordar a nuestros seres queridos fallecidos. Durante la Misa, podrán colocar los nombres de sus seres queridos frente al Altar durante el Ofertorio.
