SELECT FROM ALL OF OUR PREMIUM SSW VARIETIES
Seed Density and AppearanceSSW seeds generally differ from sh2 seeds in both density and appearance. SSW seeds are denserthan sh2 seeds, and unlike sh2, they do not show defined denting or dimpling. SSW seeds are alsoheavier, with smoother seed coats that process far better than conventional sh2 gene-types in seedlot preparation systems.
Plant PopulationsWhen planting SSW varieties versus conventional sh2’s, it is important to learn that SSW varieties willvery likely germinate and establish close to the planted populations. Over planting to compensate forexpected lower actual germs may result in too thick stands, which in turn can lead to undesired earsize or shape and/or potential yield loss.
Moisture Level and Soil TemperatureTests have shown best emergence with normal or slightly higher moisture level. Be sure to provideadequate moisture, but to avoid over watering. Sweet corn tends not to germinate below 45° Fahrenheit;however, SSW shows improved vigor and uniformity at lower temperatures as compared to sh2 varieties.
SuperSeedWare™ (SSW™) is the name for the gene-type platforms of sweet corn seeds that areprotected by US Patent #8,796,504, #8,822,756 and #6,184,438. SSW improves the performance ofsweet corn seeds under many stress conditions, such as early plantings in colder or wetter soil. Otherattributes suggest earlier maturities, stronger stalk and root systems, measurable disease toleranceimprovements, overall higher yield potentials, and improved seed storage and shelf life.
Proper Handling and StorageSSW seed is generally denser and less susceptible to physical damage than sh2. In order to ensurebest results, it is recommended to avoid rough handling and excessive agitation prior to planting. Aswith all seed, store any unused seed in appropriate containers and under controlled storage to ensuremaximum shelf life and viability.
IsolationSSW gene-type varieties are compatible with conventional sh2 types and may be planted in harmony.Other gene-types should not be allowed to cross pollinate with SSW types in order to maintain visualand eating quality shelf life of 100% of the kernels. As with most other gene-types of sweet corn, SSWvarieties will provide maximum results when protected from cross pollination from any other gene-types.
