Multi-purpose button used for various operations. See pages 1-3 thru 1-24 fordetailed descriptions on the use of this button. Also used to advance the tapeequal to the set pitch. If the Mode Button is also being held down whenpressing the Forward Button, then the advance is 2mm. Holding the ForwardButton down will rapid advance the tape for as long as the button is held down.

Multi-purpose button used for various operations. See pages 1-3 thru 1-24 fordetailed descriptions on the use of this button. Also used to reverse feed thetape equal to the set pitch. If the Mode Button is also being held down whenpressing the Reverse Button, then the reverse feed is 2mm.The reverse limit is 20mm. .

Multi-purpose button used for changing lanes during various operations.See pages 1-3 thru 1-24 for detailed descriptions on the use of this button.Lane 1 is the active lane upon feeder power up. The active lane of the threewill have a decimal point in the bottom right corner of the lane number onthe display. Lane 1 is on the left, lane 2 is center, and lane 3 is on the rightof the feeder. Pressing the Lane Select Button will activate the next lane,lane 1 to lane 2, lane 2 to lane 3, and lane 3 to lane 1.

Control Panel Detail

The SSF feeder is equipped with a power save feature. After 5 minutes with no user interfaceactivity, and the Peel Arms are either in the locked down position, or have been untensionedsince power up, then the Display and the digits are off. There WILL, however, be a decimalpoint at the digit 1 (lane 1) position.

When the feeder is advanced on the machine, any lanes with a Peel Arm locked down or upsince power up, the corresponding digit and Status LED will be turned off.

Pressing any button brings the feeder out of ode, and activates the display andLED.

Installing the Hard Deck

The Hard Deck is a peripheral item for the SSF feeder, used for punched or paper tape withcomponent sizes 0603 and smaller. A quantity of three (3) Hard Deck units are supplied with the SSFfeeder. They are stored directly on the feeder in a designated storage area called the Hard DeckGarage.

Follow the steps shown in the figures below to retrieve a Hard Deck from the Garage and install it foruse on the SSF feeder.

Hover-Davis can provide mylar cover tape leaders that will extend the beginning length of thecover tape, eliminating the need to waste components.

1. To properly load the feeder, peel the cover tape from the carrier tape. Fold covertape over end of carrier tape. .See Figs. 1.5A and 1.5B

. Place the end of the carrier tape into the Tape Chutelocated at the rear of the feeder and feed the carrier tape into the feeder untilthe end reaches the Tape Window See Fig. 1.6

Push the end of the Tape Window down to open it. The Window is spring loaded, so youmust continue to hold the front of the Window down in order to keep it open. Continue tofeed the carrier tape into the feeder. Thread the cover tape through the opening on the TapeWindow. Make sure the holes in the carrier tape are engaged with the teeth on the DriveSprocket. When the loading is completed, slowly release the front of the Window, and it willclose. .See Fig. 1.7

1. The carrier tape needs to be trimmed flush with the front of the feeder where it exits.

Feed the Cover Tape back from the Tape Window and over the Peel Arm.Lock down the Peel Arm for ease of Cover Tape loading. Be sure to unlock the Peel Arm sothat tension is applied to the Cover Tape until the Status LED is GREEN.

1. Press the Mode Button on the Control Panel. .

2. Feed Cover Tape end between the Idler Wheel and Drive Rollers as they rotate.

3. The Feeder is properly loaded when Cover Tape slack is removed, and the Status LED isGREEN.

If the Peel Arm is locked in the DOWN position, then the Status LED will be solid YELLOW,and the lane will not operate until the Peel Arm is unlocked. If the Peel Arm is locked downafter power up, the Status LED will blink YELLOW.

1. Press the Lane Select Button to select a lane that is loaded.

2. To enter Pitch Set Mode, press and hold the Mode Button for 3 seconds until theselected lane Status LED turns YELLOW, then release the Mode Button.

3. Press the Forward Button to increase the feeder pitch, and press the ReverseButton to decrease the feeder pitch. Adjust this setting to match the pitch of thecomponent tape that is loaded in to the feeder.

4. To set the pitch of other lanes, press the Lane Select Button to change lanes. Pressingthe Lane Select Button will switch to the next lane, causing the newly selected lane toblink and the corresponding Status LED to turn YELLOW, along with moving the decimalpoint.

5. Pressing the Lane Select Button for 3 seconds will save the current lane setting andswitch to the next lane.

6. Press and release the Mode Button to save and exit Pitch Set Mode.

Setting the Pick up Position (PuP)

To set the Pick up Position (PuP), press and hold down the Mode Button, then press theForward Button or the Reverse Button to advance or retract the tape in 2.0 mmincrements. When the component is centered next to the appropriate pick up positionmark then the pick point setting is correct.

Emptying the Cover Tape Reservoir

To empty the Cover Tape Reservoir, swing the Reservoir Door open and remove theexcess Cover Tape inside the Reservoir. Pull the Cover Tape to the side and downwardagainst the Integrated Blade to cut. Swing the Reservoir Door closed.

Operator Modes

The purpose of Operator Mode is to enable the Operator to change the pitch of thefeeder.

To enter Operator Mode Menu, follow the list of steps below:

1. Press and hold down the Forward and Reverse Buttons for 3 secondsuntil ‘Pi’ is displayed. All three Status LED’s will illuminate GREEN.

2. Pressing either the Forward Button or Reverse button will cycle through theOperator Mode menu. Press and hold the Mode Buttonfor 3 seconds in order to exit Operator Modes.

3. When the feeder is in the Operator Mode menu, pressing the lane select button willswitch to the next lane. This will only move the decimal point. The Status LED's anddisplay message will not change.

4. Press and release the Mode Button to enter the desired mode. The Status LED willilluminate YELLOW on the selected lane. Pressing the Mode Button a second time whilein any mode, will exit mode selection without saving any changes.

5. Press the Forward Button or Reverse Button to make adjustments.

6. Press and hold down the Mode Button for 3 seconds to accept the changesand exit Operator Mode menu. (Pressing and releasing the Mode Button will exit thismode without saving the changes and put the feeder back to Operator Modes).

If no button is pressed within 30 seconds, the feeder will automatically exit out ofOperator Modes and not save adjustments.

3. Press the Lane Select Button to select the correct lane on the feeder. This can also bedone at the Operator Mode menu level.

4. Press the Forward or Reverse Button to change the pitch setting.

Clear the jam, then inspect feeder for

loose components, bound up supply

reels, obstructed carrier exit, or

obstructed tape path. Press any

button to clear error message.

Empty the Reservoir. Press the

M ode Button to clear the message.

The feeder has attempted to

Inspect the Peel Arm. Press either

Button to clear the message.

The following note concerns the state of lanes that are offline:

If the feeder is unable to tension the Peel Arm on power up, the corresponding Status LED will

be illuminated RED.

If the Peel Arm is locked down when the feeder is powered up, the corresponding Status LED will

be illuminated YELLOW.

If a Peel Arm is locked down after power up, the corresponding Status LED will flash YELLOW.
