Always complete a reverse motion by performing a final forward move to setcomponent final location
NOTE
Decrease Pitch Index When pressed, the pitch setting will decrease by 1 ( equivalent to 4mm).

Pitch Display Represents the distance the tape will advance in 4mm increments. The setting iscalculated by multiplying numbers shown by 4mm.
Increase Pitch When pressed, the pitch setting will increase by 1 .
Status Light RED FLASH = feeder in tape jam error mode.GREEN = during advance or reverseYELLOW = stand by - power onOFF = power off
Forward Feed Advances tape in distance equal to pitch setting.
Single Hole Feed When pressed and held in while tapping either the Forward Feed or Reverse Feedbuttons, the feeder advances or retracts 2mm respectively.
Reverse Feed Retracts tape in distance equal to pitch setting.

To properly load the feeder, the cover tape must be peeled back from the first 15inches of the carrier tape.
NOTE Hover-Davis can provide mylar cover tape leaders that will extend thebeginning length of the cover tape eliminating the need to wastecomponents.
Place the tape reel into the tray so that the tape feeds off from the top of the reel. Pullthe end of the tape over the Tape Support Guide towards the front of the feeder.

The next step requires the Tape Window to be opened. There are two styles of TapeWindows in use on the SP01 series of tape feeders. 8mm and 12mm feeders use one styleTape Window, while 16mm through 56mm feeders use the other style Tape Window.
For 8mm & 12mm feeders follow the instructions below. For 16mm through 56mmfeeders skip to Page 1-7
Slide the Tape Window Tool out of the PullHandle and place the small protrusion ofthe tool into the Tape Window opening onthe back side of the feeder.
Hold the Tape Window Tool flush to theback of the feeder and twist the TapeWindow Tool (either direction) to open theTape Window.
To close the Tape Window, twist the TapeWindow Tool to its starting position thenremove.
Store the Tape Window Tool by pressing itfirmly back in to its storage position on thePull Handle.

On 8mm feeders, paper carrier tape will require that the Paper Deck Insert to be installedunder the Tape Window. To install the Paper Deck Insert, remove the M02X5-SHCS screwthat holds the Paper Deck Insert in the storage position. Swing the Tape Cover open and liftthe Tape Window (see previous page for window opening instructions). Move the PaperDeck Insert into position under the Tape Window and secure with the M02X5-SHCS screw.

Swing the Tape Cover open, then feed the tape underneath the Tape Window beingcareful to align the component pockets of the carrier tape into the channel on the feeder.

Feed the cover tape up through the slot on the tape window. Slide the end of thecarrier tape down into the exit guide.
Lower the Tape Window over the carrier tape making sure the holes on the carriertape engage with the teeth on the Tooth Plate. Then close the Tape Cover.

Pivot the Window Lock Lever disengaging the locking tab from the small notch in theTape Window. Slide the Tape Window slightly forward to disengage the latch hook.Then lift the Tape Window open. Feed the tape underneath the Tape Window beingcareful to align the component pockets of the carrier tape into the channel on thefeeder.

Feed the cover tape up through the opening in the tape window. Slide the end of thecarrier tape down into the exit guide.
16 & 24mm feeders, the cover tape passes through the componentopening of the window. 32, 44, & 56mm feeders, the cover tape passesthrough the slot located behind the component opening of the window.
NOTE
Swing the Tape Window closed making sure that the holes on the carrier tape haveengaged the teeth on the tooth plate. Slide the Tape Window back to engage thelatch locking the Tape Window closed.

Fold Roller Operation (8 & 12mm)
Pull up on the Cover Tape Splice Deflector to open. Feed the cover tape over thefirst roller and the Fold Roller, then under the third roller. Feed the cover tape overthe fourth roller then down. Twist the cover tape so that the folded adhesive sidefaces the V-Bar Roller. Continue to feed the cover tape behind the V-Bar Roller andinto the Splice Engine. Once the cover tape is fully loaded, push the Cover TapeSplice Deflector down against the rollers.

Feed the cover tape over the first roller and the Fold Roller, then under the thirdroller. Feed the cover tape over the fourth roller then down. Twist the cover tape sothat the folded adhesive side faces the V-Bar Roller. Continue to feed the covertape behind the V-Bar Roller and into the Splice Engine.

Swing open the V-Bar Assembly. Then feed the cover tape from the Tape Windowopening and loop it over the top rod of the V-Bar Assembly, being careful not toplace any twists in the cover tape. Then feed the cover tape behind the roller ofthe V-Bar Assembly. Swing the V-Bar Assembly closed.

Press the Splice Lid Latch over to unlock the Splice Lid of the Splice Engine and swingthe Splice Lid open.
Feed the cover tape from the V-Bar or Fold Roller Assembly into the Splice Engine,being careful not to place twists into the cover tape, and making sure the adhesive sideof the cover tape faces away from the Drive Roller. Center the cover tape over the twoalignment marks on the Splice engine and the Drive Roller.

Pull the cover tape taut then swing the Splice Lid shut securely pinching the cover tapeinside the lid between the O-Ring or Roller and the Idler Knurl. Press the Splice LidLatch and close the Splice Lid. Release the Splice Lid Latch making sure the latch fullyengages locking the Splice Lid shut.
Be sure cover tape ispulled tight, removing allslack before closing theSplice Lid.

With the tape securely loaded into the feeder, you now have to position the firstcomponent so that the empty pocket directly ahead of it is at the Pick Point. Pressand hold down the button, then use the button toposition the empty pocket so that it is centered in the Pick Point Mark. Refer to page1-1 for details of how the button works.

Now you have to set the pitch setting of the feeder. First identify the pitch of the tapeyou are using. Use the (see below) to helpidentify the pitch of the tape you are using. Then set the Pitch Selector using theIncrease Pitch button or Decrease Pitch button respectively so that the Pitch Displaymatches the pitch of the tape.
