SSE™ 12
DescriptionThe SSE is a new enclosure seriesfeaturing high power ratings with customcomponents, a sleek look and a unique,snap-in metal grille. The SSE 12 is a two-way system featuring the highly acclaimedPeavey 14XT titanium compression driverwith the diverse Sound Guard IV tweeterprotection network and Peavey ScorpionPro 1200+ 12" woofer with 2.5" (64 mm)voice coil for smooth response. The SSE12 is rated at 500 Watts program and 1,000Watts peak. This lightweight speakersystem is ideal for smaller venues wherespace is at a premium. Connections aremade using a four-pin Neutrik® Speakon®
or a paralleled two-position terminal blockfor additional cabinets. The SSE 12incorporates flying points on the top of theunit and mounting points on the bottomfor utilizing the Peavey VersaMount 70mounting bracket. The SSE Series isavailable in black, white and naturalfinishes.

Frequency responseThis measurement is useful in determininghow accurately a given unit reproduces aninput signal. The frequency response ofthe SSE 12 is measured at a distance of 1meter using a 1 Watt (into the nominalimpedance) swept-sine input signal. Asshown in figure 1, the selected drivers inthe SSE 12 combine to give a smoothfrequency response from 79 Hz to 17 kHz.
DirectivityBeamwidth is derived from the -6 dBpoints from the polar plots (see figure 3)which are measured in a whole spaceanechoic environment. Q and DirectivityIndex are plotted for the on-axismeasurement position. Thesespecifications provide a reference to thecoverage characteristics of the unit andprovide insight into proper placement andinstallation in the chosen environment. The blending of the components of theSSE 12 exhibit a desirable beamwidth anddirectivity (figures 3 & 4) suitable forsound reinforcement applications.
Power handlingThere are many different approaches topower handling ratings. Peavey rates thisloudspeaker system’s power handlingusing a full-range form of the AESStandard 2-1984. Using audio band 20 Hz
to 20 kHz pink noise with peaks of fourtimes the RMS level, this strenuous testsignal assures the user that every portionof this system can withstand today’s hightechnology music. This rating is contingentupon having a minimum of 3 dB ofamplifier headroom available.
Harmonic distortionSecond and third harmonic distortions vs.frequency are plotted in figures 5 & 6 fortwo power levels. Ten percent (10%) ofrated input power and either one percent(1%) of rated input power or 1 Watt, whichever is greater. Distortion is readfrom the graph as the difference betweenthe fundamental signal (frequencyresponse) and the desired harmonic. As anexample, a distortion curve that is down40 dB from the fundamental is equivalentto 1% distortion.
MountingCaution: Before attempting to suspend ormount this speaker, consult a certifiedstructural engineer. The speaker may falldue to improper installation, resulting inserious injury and property damage. DONOT suspend or mount any other productor device from this enclosure. Themaximum enclosure angle is 45°. Use onlyGrade 5 hardware or better. All associatedrigging is the responsibility of others.
