SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church
Celebrating 92 Years
1923 - 2015
Drawing from the treasures of the Gospel and Roman Catholic Church teaching,
we commit ourselves to be living examples of a community rich in faith,
seeking the Kingdom of God.
The Most Holy Trinity
May 31, 2015
I WAS THINKING… On this last Sunday of May, The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, I want to take you outside of our church.
The month of May is always dedicated to Blessed Vir-gin Mary. In Poland and other countries Catholics have a beau-tiful tradition of praying to Our Lord through the intercession of Mary outside of church buildings. In the village areas every evening people gather by the statues of Mary, pray the Ro-sary, sing the Litany to Our Lady of Loretto. There is always time after prayers to talk and share. In our area, we do not have this tradition (called in Polish “Majówka” or “Nabożeństwo Majowe”), but we still have statues of Mary in our gardens or in our yards.
A few weeks ago, when finally we said “goodbye” to the cold weather, we had to look around our buildings to check and decide what needed to be repaired, replaced or upgraded. In the front of the Rectory is a white statue of Mary. For many years it was kind of hidden behind the ramp. The statue was sitting on a wooden box with the core made of several cinder blocks. In our harsh Michigan weather nothing lasts forever. The wooden construction was falling, cinder blocks moving, and almost every year we had to put a “band-aid” on it. Our head of the Maintenance Team, Roman, came up with an idea of erecting a permanent pedestal. In less than one week Roman and Raymond built a new pedestal for the statue of Mary. They used cinder blocks and rocks to create this new column.
In the front of the statue there is also a small flower garden. This garden was planted by one of our volunteers Marieanne Frenette. Marieanne worked a couple of days to make this place beautiful for Blessed Virgin Mary. She also planted flowers in front of the Rectory and in front of the church by the large statue of Mary. Marieanne, Raymond, and Roman, thank you for stepping in and taking care of our beau-tiful property.
To all of our parishioners: if you would like to volun-teer at the parish, we always have something we need help with. Just give me a call and you can become a volunteer. Next week we will resume our tour inside our church.
May the Lord Jesus Christ and His Mom bless and protect you always!
Fr. Jerry

2015 CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL (CSA) BEGINS!
This Weekend CSA has begun their annual collec-tion here at SS. Peter and Paul Church. By now you should have received pledge cards and brochures if your family is on the Parish mailing list. If you are not on that list, or for some reason have not received a pledge card please call Michael Thomas at 313-846-2222 Ext. 107. We will also have blank pledge cards at the church starting this week-end. You are also welcome to include your pledge with the church collection, mail it in, or drop it by the office during our operating hours.
This year, the Archdiocese has set a goal for our parish of $15,022. If we exceed our target, any excess will be returned directly to our parish. While we did not exceed our target goal of $16,000 in 2014, the lowering of the tar-get goal will help for us to at least reduce the shortfall we are obliged to pay from our general fund. We ask that all of you prayerfully consider making the best pledge you can afford to in order to support all these important ministries and programs, some of which are listed below. In addition, you will be helping keep SS. Peter and Paul going strong by reducing the shortfall, so this donation will benefit both parishioners and many others as well.
Remember there are different ways to contribute too, if you wish to make credit card or ACH (Electronic Fund transfer) you can check the 9 monthly Payments of Quarterly boxes on the pledge card so that each month you pay only a small amount towards a much greater pledge!
The budget for the 2015 Catholic Services Appeal is $17,839,175. Your gifts to the CSA are used solely and ex-clusively to support 117 Archdiocesan ministries, pro-grams, and services as well as certain national collections of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. No CSA dollars have ever been — or ever will be — used to support projects outside of the Archdiocese, other than those USCCB national collections, or to settle claims of any nature against the Archdiocese. The Archdiocesan lay Fi-nance Council oversees the distribution of CSA funds to ensure that all reach the ministries, programs, and services for which they are intended.
Last week we listed some of the ministries and programs that your money goes toward and this week we would like to list even more:
O. Augustyn Pelanowski OSPPE

St. Philip Neri
St. Philip Neri was a saint born on July 22, 1515, in Florence, Italy. At age 18, he decided to commit his life to God. While praying in the catacombs of St. Sebastiano, he experienced a globe of light that entered his mouth and moved to his heart. He felt closer to God and began serving the ill, poor and others in need. Neri was ordained as a priest in 1551 at the church of San Girolamo. He had a strong following of worshippers who often met in the Oratory, thus they were named the Congre-gation of the Oratory. Neri died on May 25, 1595, after a long illness. He was beatified in 1615 and canonized in 1622. St. Philip Neri’s feast day is on May 26.

Pray For Our Deceased “But our citizenship is in Heaven and from it we also await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will change our lowly body to conform with His glorified body by the Power that enables Him also to bring all things into subjection to Himself.” (Philippians 3:20-21)
Pray for the Sick
All-powerful and everlasting God, your Son accepted our suffering to teach us the virtue of patience in human ill-ness. Hear the prayers we offer for our sick brothers and sisters. May all who suffer know that they are joined to Christ in His suffering for the salvation of the world. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
