The wood-based manufacturing sector in Sri Lanka depends almost entirely on the wood supply for raw materials. The sector is diverse, consisting of a variety of indus-tries including saw milling, furniture, construction, parquet �ooring, wood-based panel products, carvings and wood related products. Sri Lanka possesses an abun-dance of natural resources that enrich and sustain the lives of its people. Although exports have gradually increased over the past decade and shows growth potential.
Sri Lanka Wood International Expo showcases some of the latest and greatest prod-ucts along with their technologies from across the globe. It delivers unprecedented access to key decision makers in wood industry of the country.
Private sector ownership comprises about 95% of the industry with less government involvement. Sri Lanka comprises of around more than 60,000 production units. The revenue from those units translates into an estimated monthly revenue of around Rs.54 million. In annual terms, that’s a revenue is of around Rs.648 million.
