Quarterly Newsletter March 2014
April 25 - June 7
Spring Show Blossoms for the 59th Time Spring Show at ArtSpace has a history almost as long as the or-
ganization itself. The 2014 iteration will be the 59th such,
stretching in an unbroken line from the founding moments to the
present.
In more ways than one, Spring Show is our flagship exhibit.
Drawing on entries from a 100 mile radius around Lima, the
exhibit notably includes the newest work from the most active
and productive artists in the area. And with generous prizes to
be awarded the best of the best, it’s no wonder that it’s a mag-
netic draw.
Intake is scheduled for April 9, 10 and 11 from 10am-5pm and
April 12 from 10am-2pm. Artists may submit up to three origi-
nal works into the following categories: painting, drawing, print-
making, photography, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, digital art
and mixed media.
Awards include Best of Show, First Award, Second Award,
Third Award, The Martha Farmer Award for Sculpture, The
ArtSpace/Lima Photography Club Award, The Bruce Chesser
Award for Ceramics, Award for Painting, and the People’s
Choice Award (chosen by polling guests).
Spring Show 2014 will run from April 25 - June 7. Opening
Reception for artists, their friends and families on
Friday, April 25, 6:30-8:30 pm. The full prospectus for Spring

Kewpee Invitational The partnership between ArtSpace and Kewpee also goes back a long
way. This year’s Kewpee High School Art Invitational will be its 26th
outing.
Another year, another plenitude of young talent. 2014 brought 254
students with 358 entries from 20 area schools, juried to 82 pieces in
the exhibit by jurors Anna Talei Fisher (Wapakoneta artist and one of
ArtSpace’s most admired teachers) and Ed Corle (Associate Professor
of Art, Findlay University).

Spring into an
ArtSpace Class ***************
Nothing says renewal like spring. And not much else says
creative, either.
You can bring both qualities into your or your youngster’s
life by enrolling in an art class at ArtSpace this spring. We
have convenient hours, a super-low tuition fee, and award-
winning teachers. The final ingredient is you for an artistic
mix that’s bound to satisfy.
This spring, we’re offering a selection of courses for kids and another for adults.
Kids Classes feature Spring-themed pottery, including bird
houses and stepping stones, taught by Anna Fisher. Maia
Fisher continues her popular 5 X 5 in 5 Classes, in which
students investigate the work of five different artists, then
work themselves in acrylic, printmaking, drawing, pastel,
and collage. Finally, there’s Kids Jewelry, taught by Andrea
Scheckelhoff, just in time to make the perfect one-of-a-kind
Mothers’ Day gift.
All supplies are included in the Tuition Fee of $50.00. Kids Classes run on Saturdays from April 12 through May 10.
Adults can choose from Barbara Spurgeon’s Watercolor
Painting class (basic composition and painting techniques),
Anna Fisher’s Garden Ceramics (pieces for your garden
using different building and glazing techniques), and Andrea
Scheckelhoff ’s Stained Glass Basics (the basics of stained
glass construction to create a lovely sun catcher).
Adult classes meet on Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm, April 10-May 8. Tuition for Adult classes is $50.00, plus the odd minimal supplies fee.
And just a heads-up for

Last Words from the Operations Manager
Velma Kelly: "I simply cannot do it a-lone."
March 2014 - 4
That lyric from Kander and Ebb's Chicago says it as succinctly and as clearly as can be. Fact is, none of us can do it alone. So ArtSpace
relies on the generosity and public spiritedness of a large number of people, organizations, institutions, and businesses who have seen fit to
support us in the year just past. Thanks to all of those listed below for believing in the mission and for stepping up to make sure that the
mission is accomplished. Our pledge, as always, is to do our very best to deserve the vote of confidence you give us.
