ART PROGRAMS AT THE Y.While the YMCA is traditionally known as a place to learn how to swim or practice your jump shot, it is also a place where children can find a an outlet for expression and creativity.

YES Music Together! Parents and Tots will sing and dance together! Tots will be introduced to favorite kid songs with other tots with the security of mom and dad in class with them.

YES Once Upon A Time Once Upon A Time makes story time fun and interactive! Kids will be read a story while they act out their favorite parts of the book.

YES Outrageous Artists Create and explore a variety of different art media, including: collage, painting, drawing, print making, sculpture, working with clay and photography.

YES Crafty Kids Club It is time to let your creative side free! This club allows young artists to express their artistic ability through a variety of media. Artists will learn different ways to be crafty while having fun and socializing with other kids.

YES Super Scientists Hey super scientists! Are you ready to explore? Learn and participate in a variety of hands on science projects that will spark your imagination.

Little Scribbles Young artists will be introduced to art and will be able to paint, color, explore and create messy masterpieces while making new friends. Tu 6:30-7PM Sa 11-11:30AM.

Pre-Ballet In preparation for classical ballet technique, students will be introduced to basic A terminology, stretches and barre work. Students will develop motor skills by learning basic skips, jumps, gallops and leaps.

Ballet I Students will develop technical skills by following the traditional classical ballet class structure. Students will develop musically with rhythmically challenging combinations both at the barre and for center work. Muscular development, coordination and flexibility will be enforced.

Jazz Students will develop technical skills by following the traditional class structure. Barre work will become more complex as students develop opposition and coordination using the "working side" of the body. Students will be taught to memorize terminology and become fluent in learned ballet language. Choreography retention, coordination, muscular development and flexibility will be enforced.

Contemporary Jazz In this combined dance class, you will experience the best of both worlds of dance. With a contemporary ballet based warm up to stretch and gracefully elongate muscles, you will spend the final half hour learning choreographed combinations to music of contemporary artists. Basic steps will be taught, including pivots, jumps, isolations, and pas de bourées.

Knitting Join the Y Knot knitters and learn the basic knitting stitches of garter stitch, stockinette stitch, rivving and more. Learn how to read a pattern along with the techniques needed to create beautiful hand-made items to enjoy and share. Enjoy this lifelong skill while socializing with individuals with similar interests. Materials required for first class: one skein of solid, light colored worsted weight (medium) yarn; one pair, size 8 straight knitting needles, 10" or 14".

YES Superhero Training Train to be a superhero kid by participating in super physical activities, making friends with other superheroes and learning the YMCA 4 Core Values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility!

YES Tumble Together! Parents will help Tots be able to explore movement and develop gross motor skills such as walking, running, jumping and balancing using tumbling mats and equipment. Tu 9:30-10AM Sa 10:15-10:45AM

YES Youth Basketball Skills "Does your youngest want to develop more basketball skills? This class is designed to develop and test the fundamental basketball skills of your advanced player. We will enforce the rules of the game, basketball terms, defensive play, best ways to score and more!"

YES Youth Indoor Soccer Our indoor soccer class is focused on developing and improving your child's performance in all areas of the game. This includes hands on experience in team exercises that will keep your child active and improve their sports vocabulary/mental comprehension of the game. Free for all members!

Tiny Tumblers Children will learn to develop their balance and coordination by jumping, climbing, rolling, tumbling and running while making friends.

Bitty Ball Sports Your child will be introduced to a variety of sports that will rotate throughout the seasons, such as basketball, soccer, t-ball and football. Little athletes will make friends and learn how to be a good sport.

Adult Basketball League Bring your own team or join as an individual for adult recreational team league.

Seido Karate Tots Mind, body, spirit practice in a safe, fun, challenging environment. Seido Juku karate-the sincere way. Students develop strong and healthy bodies, improve coordination, flexibility, and balance. Children gain self-confidence, discipline, focus, karate etiquette, including Japanese vocabulary, and practice respectful behavior while having a great time!

Seido Karate Youth 1 Mind, body, spirit practice in a safe, fun, challenging environment. Seido Juku karate-"the sincere way." Students develop strong and healthy bodies, improve coordination, flexibility, and balance. They gain self-confidence, discipline, focus, karate etiquette, including Japanese vocabulary. Youth 1: students begin earning rank as they learn real techniques specific to their level. Classes also involve kata-forms, obstacle courses and partnering. Formal structure to class with a game based learning model.

Seido Karate Youth 2 Youth 2: This class allows new students and beginner ranks to practice with their level peers.

Seido Karate Youth 3 Youth 3: Students with more experience are brought into a faster moving class focusing on technique, forms, partnering, sparring skills, self defense and other aspects of karate training.

Seido Karate Adult Adults: Mind, body, spirit practice. Vigorous physical techniques give a good workout as students develop non quitting spirit, focused minds, self defense and soaring skills and footwork. Pad striking, pushups, core work and stretching are part of every class.

Body Pump Get lean, toned, and fit-Fast using light to moderate weights with a lot of repetition. This total body workout will burn up 590 calories.

Boot Camp This program won't just help you strengthen, tone, and increase your cardio fitness-It will make you feel fabulous in your skin. Be prepared to sweat and have fun.

Boxing This progressive class will focus on proper punching and movements using the heavy bag and punching mitts found in a boxer's regime.

Chair Yoga Yoga will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses

Line Dancing Class Join other dancers and learn some fun Line Dances or just come for the great exercise. We play great music from all genres such as, ballroom, country,Hip Hop, blues, swing, and more and what's great is that you never need a partner!

Mat Pilates This Mat based workout is designed to improve core control, coordination, standing alignment& balance, Come join us to build strength from the inside out.

Personal Training This package includes six sessions that are 1 hour in length. You will be paired with a trainer whose expertise aligns with your fitness goals. Your personal training package includes a free 30 minute consultation prior to your first session.

Power Hour Work the entire body with a full range of resistance and cardio exercising using a variety of equipment all fitness levels welcome.

Silver Sneakers Classic Move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activities for daily living. A chair is available if needed for assistance.

Tabata A head-to-toe workout using interval training to maximize fitness levels in a short amount of time. Calories are burned up to 12 hours post-exercise with these effective exercises!

Y Cycle Instructors will lead you on a ride designed to improve your fitness on a variety of levels;endurance, strength, interval, all terrain and training.

Y Strength Tone your muscles in this energizing class, using bosy bars, dumbbells tubing, and non-stop motivation.

Hula-Hoop Dance & Core A low impact class that combines cardio and core through the use of hula-hoop dance. Come ready to work your abs, obliques and hips in a fun filled hula-hoop routine

Spring Bunny Brunch (Apr 4)Bring the entire family and join the High Ridge community for our annual Spring Bunny Brunch. Enjoy a pancake brunch, meet and take pictures with the Bunny, participate in an egg hunt, play games and win prizes!

Healthy Kids Day (Apr 25) Put play in your day and enjoy some fun, active family time at the Y. As part of the nation's largest health day for children and families, we'll offer fun, engaging and creative activities that promote wellness and healthier living.

Aquatic DescriptionsParent/Child SwimLevel 1: Pike With Parent 2-5 year olds: is a preschool class for children who might have a hard time adjusting to swim class without a parent or guardian. The class is taught as a normal Pike class, which covers basic swimming skills, water safety and most importantly ... FUN!

Level 1: Shrimp Ages 6-8months. Program instruction in this class is directed toward helping parents to work with their child to feel more comfortable in the water and to develop basic waters safety and swim skills. Each child should always be accompanied by one parent.

Level 2: Kipper 6-18 months - is for infants and toddlers with little or no water experience. Focus is on water adjustment and having fun in the pool!

Level 3: Inia 24 months-3 years- is for older toddlers or experienced parent/child teams. Focus is on fun, games, and basic swimming skills, while giving toddlers a chance to work on preschool skills.

Level 4: Perch 24 months - 3 years: is for older toddlers or experienced parent/child teams. Focus is on fun, games, and basic swimming skills, while giving toddlers a chance to work on preschool skills.

Preschool SwimLevel 1: Pike Swimmers focus on learning how to float, place their faces in the water and swim short distances with help.

Level 2: Eel Swimmers will learn to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without. Must be able to front and backfloat 20 seconds with an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on their front,back, and side for 10 yards with an IFD, and 5 feet without.

Level 3: Ray Swimmers focus on developing front, back, and side strokes, rotary breathing and intermediate swimming skills. Swimmers must be able to paddle for 15 feet without assistance.

Level 4: Starfish Swimmers learn to swim front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke and breaststroke for 25 yards.

Youth SwimLevel 1: Polliwog Swimmers have little or no prior swimming lesson experience but are not afraid of the water. This class focuses on learning basic swimming skills such as floating and swimming short distances without help.

Level 2: Guppy Swimmer must be able to paddle on their front, back and side for 20ft without assistance. In this class rotary breathing is introduced.

Level 3: Minnow Must be able to swim basic front crawl with basic rotary breathing, basic backstroke, basic sidestroke, basic elementary backstroke, and basic breaststroke for 25 yards (one length of the pool). This class focuses on stroke development.

Level 4: Fish Must be able to swim basic front crawl with basic rotary breathing, backstroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, and breaststroke for 50 yards (two lengths of the pool). This class continues to work on stroke development and endurance.

Level 5: Flying Fish At this level students continue to refine their strokes and increase their endurance. They develop the ability to perform more complex combinations of synchronized movements, learn to dive off a diving block and the butterfly stroke.

Goldfish Swimming Lessons This class will teach students with special needs to swim. Instructors and assistants will meet the students' needs. Class size is limited to four participants. Water Polo Club Played with two nets and a ball, water polo is the oldest Olympic sport! The class will teach the skills, rules, and techniques of water polo. Water polo is a great way to stay fit while having fun in the water. Participants must be Guppy level or higher.

Teen SwimTeen Swim Lessons Teen Swim Lessons are specifically geared toward children ages 12 to 15. While comparable to regular swimming lessons, they are designed to be more fun and age-appropriate. A healthy infusion of fun games and activities will be provided to work on stroke development, learn life-long water safety skills and make friends!

HRY Boys H.S. Swim Team Join a swim team during the High School Boys offseason to keep strength, endurance, and strokes competitive year round!

Synchronized Swimming Synchronized swimming challenges the creativity of swimmers by combining the movements of dance with swimming skills. Students work to improve stroke, form and endurance while gaining confidence and poise. Swimmers may participate in performances and competitions. Prerequisite: Fish level or above.

Adult SwimAqua Fit Advanced Aqua fitness is a FREE program for adults. It is a medium to high cardio impact class held in the deep and shallow water. The class is taught by certified and trained instructors.

Aqua Fit Light This is a FREE program for all members. This class is a low impact water fitness class taught by certified and trained instructors. No experience necessary.

Level 1: Adult Beginner Lesson Never learned to swim? Need some confidence to get in the pool? This is the class for you. This class will teach you to swim or help you regain confidence in the water!

Level 2: Adult Intermediate If you can already float and move in the water, this is the class for you. We will help you improve your swimming ability!

Masters Swim Team Masters is an adult competitive league that practices several times a week. Contact Kristine Gilson, Head Coach at kgilson@ ymcachicago.org is you are interested in joining (cost is per month.

Private Swim Lesson 5 Lessons This is for participants who only want to sign up for a single 30 minute private lesson. A private lesson is one instructor with one participant. Semi-Private Swim Lesson 5 Lessons Prices listed are based per person. This is for participants who only want to sign up for a package of five 30 minute semi-private lessons. Stroke Clinic Signed up for a triathlon or just want to improve your stroke! Join us in this clinic as we break down the mechanics of each stroke to make your swim a more efficient one.

SilverSplash This is a FREE program for members. SilverSplash is a medium impact cardio and strength training class. The class is held in both the shallow and deep water.

American Red Cross CertificationsJr. Lifeguard Must be at a Minnow level or higher to enroll. Participants are introduced to fundamentals of lifeguarding and will be taught basic rescues, focus on safety, and practice a variety of in water skills.

Lifeguard Class Interested in a great summer job or challenging career as a professional lifeguard? Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you'll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED and other skills you need to work as a professional lifeguard. Successful completion results in a 2-year certification in Lifeguarding that includes first aid, professional-level CPR and AED in one certificate. Digital certificate available upon successful completion of course.
