and Fall curriculum
A wonderful ceremony to celebrate our largest senior class to date!
What an amazing year! This school year has seen some fantastic opportunities—not only did we gain new teachers in
Lincoln: Christine Dubois and Matt Lindsay, but we opened a new location in LaGrange, serving
the greater LaGrange and Howland area. We applaud teacher Kara Taheny and aide Ella
Lyford for a stellar first year!
A year celebrating connections
Not only were students all over the state able to connect with different instructors
through instructor-facilitated, wildly successful online classes—but they were able
to connect and build lasting relationships with their peers.
And in addition to building virtual support networks...
Students found other ways to explore all that Carleton Project has to offer. La-
Grange held a school dance to celebrate graduation...Bangor, LaGrange and
Presque Isle all hosted students from sister schools, engaging them in music, col-
lege tours and group yoga...and Houlton hosted an awesome all school Cinco de
Mayo get together! We’ve had a busy year!
Congratulations to our graduates!

make reality." - Kristian Kan

Spotlight: Bangor
Bangor students joined UMO art students to make pins out of everything from Legos to Scrabble pieces. UMO students helped local fine arts deal-ers to sell the pins, raising $600.00. The funds gained went toward building our Music program; so far we have gained a banjo, guitar, bass, mandolin and ukulele. Thank you all for your hard work and support!
Also, kudos to teacher Chris Betts and his talented students on being high-lighted in the magazine identity, sponsored by YouthMoveMaine!
Bangor students had a great opportunity to develop their talents and record together!

ming.
We are also seeing the con-
tinuation of some amazing
student-driven independent

signed a Robotics course
for students to
use ,andSarah Quinones of
Lincoln is taking the psy-
chology of facial recognition
to a whole other level, by
conducting a series of con-
trolled experiments to sup-
port her research, and then
analyzing the data! A per-
fect example of what a Car-
leton student is capable of!
Students work with interns and each other to soar to new heights!
Teacher Talk This has been an incredible year to be a teacher at Carleton Project!
Every week of the year, I’ve had the opportunity share in the exciting
opportunities that teachers all over the state have made available to their
student—man, I love my job!
This season has also seen a trip to the National Science Teacher’s As-
sociation conference in Boston. What amazing things are on the hori-
zon! We were blown away by the Lego robotics labs, and programming
looking at the biological and neural implications of a zombie apocalypse,
and breaking down the mathematical probabilities of tracking patterns of
infection! What we are really pumped about though, was looking at new
lab tools to fill out our Local Ecology toolbox, and at extending our Lab
Science curriculum to include Forensic Science.
And...to top it all off, we got to explore some
amazing modern artists at the ICA, and bring
some great aesthetic topics back to our stu-
dents—including renowned performance artist
Nick Cave (behind me).

Sometimes, you just gotta take advantage of being a Mainer... And a log snowy season is one of those, after a great year skiing and canoeing with the Maine Outdoor Education
Program (thanks to a Matt in Lincoln, for writing a successful grant for the program!) we are looking forward to
future endeavors with them. Northern schools were also able to hit the slopes at Big Rock.. Many thanks go out to
the folks at Big Rock and MOEP for their willingness to submit a grant to work with us throughout the year! An-
other healthy dose of Kudos to Matt for procuring hand-help GPR units and snowshoes through the DonorChoose
grant program!
Summertime means getting back to our roots
Our Local Ecology program keeps growing on the water quality studies on the B Stream in
Houlton. Since our program started as a wilderness and watershed program, it is only
fitting that we are always exploring ways to bring the indoors out!
We are also planning on some Geocaching and hiking excursions—cumulating again at
the ever popular Katahdin. A series of trips is also in the works to do team-building at the
University of Maine at Presque Isle, and exploring UMM campus, the College of the Atlan-
tic and the night sky festival in Bar Harbor. It’s great to be a Carleton student!
