2012 was a bumper year.

We loved the innovation of FuelFest, were moved by Gold Mountain, inspired by Wolf Red, wept with laughter during Liverpool ComedyFestival, and kept the kids enchanted with Remember Remember.

In 2013 we’ll be doing even more - working with the city council and the Home Office to run a gang and gun crime project across Merseyside, alongside our usual packed programme of brilliant shows, workshops and open days.

But did you know that unitytheatre is a charity? This helps us keep theatre accessible to everyone by subsidising tickets, and continue our participatory work with schools, our local community and young people.

While we’re funded by Arts Council England and Liverpool City Council, we couldn’t survive without your support, buying tickets, giving us feedback, telling others about us and donating towards projects and activities.

Thank you for your ongoing support and see you soon!

Sex. Death. Love. Religion. Dubstep.

What happens when you’re in a hole? What happens when that hole’s inside you? What do you do to make yourself feel whole?

Last year, 3 teenagers emailed 20 Stories High to ask if they could make a play about their friend Holly. This is how it unravelled…

3 Teens: …So that’s our story and we really want to tell it... And we want to play ourselves… Cos actors wouldn’t really be as convincing as us…

20SH: It’s an amazing story… But we’ve got loads on at the moment… We’re really sorry…

3 Teens: But we really want to tell our story… It says on your website that “Everybody’s got a story to tell… and their own way of telling it…” We thought you’d help us..?

20SH: OK… Well come back in a year, when we’re less busy, and let’s talk…

One year later… This is the play we made with them… WHOLE

A comic tale of a man not doing King Lear.

Acclaimed actor Edward Petherbridge was cast as King Lear, when on the second day of rehearsals he suffered a stroke that left him barely able to move.

As he struggled to recover Edward made a discovery: the entire role of Lear still existed word for word in his mind.

From being on the brink of playing Shakespeare’s most revered role, to lying in a hospital bed, Edward had never imagined what tragedies and comedies lay in store for him.

Performed by stage legend Edward Petherbridge and Told By An Idiot co-founder Paul Hunter, this is a moving and comic exploration of the resilience of the human spirit through the prism of Shakespeare’s great tragedy.
