There’s a great sense of out andabout-ness running right throughthe Eastgate’s spring programme.

Landscape Theatre’s Secrets, Treesand Stars is based on one woman’sexploration of the Borders landscape, from tiny flowers to big skies. InRowan Tree Theatre Company’sdouble-bill of new writing FromScript to Stage the ‘debatablelands’ also provide an atmosphericbackdrop to two contrasting tales ofmodern life. Meanwhile the Spanishsierras are the setting for MikeMaran’s charming new show, Platero– Travels with a Donkey.

Musically the mix is just as wide-ranging, counterpointing homegrownScottish talent with some excitingbands from much further afield. The Henry Girls enrich their ownIrish tradition with a generous dashof Americana. Genticorum bringan inimitable concoction of FrenchCanadian tunes and rhythms. AndBudapest Café Orchestra (whomay not be entirely Hungarian!)return with the most eclecticselection of European soundsthat you could imagine.

Familiar fare or far horizons –the choice is yours.
