He is a genuine horse JOCKEYS Kacie Connor and Paul Denton shared the riding honours at Pioneer Park on Sunday. Both hoops had two wins with Craig Lloyd splitting the pair, riding home So Real in the second race on the five-race program. Connor’s Sunday began brightly with the Leanne Gillett-trained Concini ($3.50) saluting in the opener, the Colemans Print- ing Handicap over 1200 metres. Connor is developing quite a rapport with the seven-year-gelding. ‘‘I liked his run last start. He is a genuine horse,’’ she said. Concini impressed Connor with the way he battled on after British Bulldog (Paul Denton) seemed to have the race won at the 200m mark. ‘‘Concini dug in and won by half a length,’’ Connor said. She believes Gillett may be looking to 1400m for the son of Medecis, who has been in the money in each of his last four starts at Pion- eer Park. The Gillett-trained Next in Line ($3.50) looked the goods in race three and Connor was pleased with his run. It was the five-year-old gelding’s first win since last June but in that time he has had four seconds and three third placings from a total of 12 starts before Sunday’s breakthough victory. Connor is looking forward to further assignments with the Gilletts as she believes they have a strong, develop- ing team. While things were rosy for the Gillett-Connor partner- ship, the jockey did not have as much good fortune when she rode for her husband Greg. Planet King, who has been campaigning in South Australia, had his first run on the dirt at Pioneer Park and the $1.90 favourite did not appear to be overly im- pressed. ‘‘He was certainly hesi- tant,’’ Connor said of the five-year-old gelding who finished fourth of seven in the XXXX Gold Handicap over 1100m. It was a similar story with Extraceed, the $3 equal favourite in the last. Extraceed finished a dis- appointing fifth after flunk- ing the start in the 1000m dash. Connor, however, is con- fident the fortunes will turn around with up to seven horses coming up on the next truck from Adelaide. ‘‘It will mean I will be busy with trackwork as we will have between 12 and 14 horses in work,’’ said ap- prentice Connor, who can still claim the three kilos allowance when she rides in the South Australian capi- tal.

Concini just gallops ahead

Next In Line is first past the post at Pioneer Park on Sunday Picture: NIKKI WESTOVER

‘I liked his run last

horse

JOCKEYS Kacie Connor

and Paul Denton shared the

riding honours at Pioneer

Park on Sunday.

Both hoops had two wins

with Craig Lloyd splittingthe pair, riding home SoReal in the second race onthe five-race program.

Connor’s Sunday beganbrightly with the LeanneGillett-trained Concini($3.50) saluting in theopener, the Colemans Print-ing Handicap over 1200metres.

Connor is developingquite a rapport with theseven-year-gelding.

‘‘I liked his run last start. He is a genuine horse,’’ shesaid.

C o n c i n i i m p r e s s e dConnor with the way hebattled on after BritishBulldog (Paul Denton)seemed to have the race wonat the 200m mark.

‘‘Concini dug in and wonby half a length,’’ Connorsaid.

She believes Gillett maybe looking to 1400m for theson of Medecis, who hasbeen in the money in each of

his last four starts at Pion-eer Park.

The Gillett-trained Nextin Line ($3.50) looked thegoods in race three andConnor was pleased with hisrun.

It was the five-year-oldgelding’s first win since lastJune but in that time he hashad four seconds and threethird placings from a total of12 starts before Sunday’sbreakthough victory.

Connor is looking forwardto further assignments withthe Gilletts as she believesthey have a strong, develop-ing team.

While things were rosy forthe Gillett-Connor partner-ship, the jockey did not haveas much good fortune when

she rode for her husbandGreg.

Planet King, who hasbeen campaigning in SouthAustralia, had his first runon the dirt at Pioneer Parkand the $1.90 favourite didnot appear to be overly im-pressed.

‘‘He was certainly hesi-tant,’’ Connor said of thefive-year-old gelding whofinished fourth of seven inthe XXXX Gold Handicapover 1100m.

It was a similar story withExtraceed, the $3 equalfavourite in the last.

Extraceed finished a dis-appointing fifth after flunk-ing the start in the 1000mdash.

Connor, however, is con-fident the fortunes will turnaround with up to sevenhorses coming up on thenext truck from Adelaide.

‘‘It will mean I will be busywith trackwork as we willhave between 12 and 14horses in work,’’ said ap-prentice Connor, who canstill claim the three kilosallowance when she rides inthe South Australian capi-tal.
