A part of a dress. Collage and glass were used in this artwork to

express the theme of Broken Dream.

This painting basically includes the elements in

1930s and 1970s. It is an interesting effect to me

when Picasso in 1930s collides with street fashion

style in 1970s. A contrast between fashion in

China and fashion in Western countries is also a

part of my expression.

There are always some barriers exist between

fantasy and reality. Several keywords are

provided to you about this artwork: Splits,

Reflective glass, Confusion and Clock. You might

catch the mood by yourself because I can't

explain it so well in a small para: )

This painting is related to my photograph LIGHT.

"She is a beacon of hope before she came so

compact

She is a world of pain while she hole so tight

let her go, or not?

She is the light; She is my light"

There are two elements in my

design. One is the text, and the

other is the logo. The topic of

design is “MAN power”, so I think

the two elements must give a

sense of strength, making people

feel the power of my design.

The overall logo should be vigorous, so I

used the guideline to make a triangular

shaped “man power”. Later in the

selection of image, I found out that this

image suited to the theme. The

combination of the image and texts can

show this sense of power suitably.

Black was my first choice,

because black can be used

for every logo. Red

represents passion, which is

an essential element in a

gym. Coca Cola’s logo has

a red background and

white image. The reason for

choosing this is that everyone is familiar

with Coca Cola, so this logo will give a

comfortable and harmonious feeling to

people in the gym.

This is a grey relief, if we put this in the

walls or doors will compromises it and

gym. The gym will make people feel firm

and persistent.

Just a still life drawing I

practiced during my AS

coursework development.

The details of the drawing

make the orange authentic.

However, some people told

me that it looks like a

mangosteen.

A watercolor painting,

but on canvas. The tone

of fruits and vegetables

is signified by multilayer

paint and color pencils.

Since the texture of

canvas can not hold

watercolor paint very

well, I added some salt

on it to emphasize those

key points.

I finished this piece by

collaging and painting.

The tone of the fruits is

built up by the nuance

of magazine pieces

which took me a long

time.

The cloth background

is expressed by real lace, and

I painted on it to

make it three dimensional.

I saw this man at a village outside of Beijing

and even though he was a poor farmer who

obviously worked hard, he still hard the ability

to laugh. And when he laughed he used every

part of his face to express his emotion. I love to

make portraits that tell us something about

who the person is or what they think. This

picture was done with a range of media such

as tea, pencil, paint, ink and charcoal...

whatever came to hand I used.

Portraits are my favorite subjects, especially portraits

of people doing their everyday activities, and

preferably without being conscious of the camera.

The boy was polling a boat down the river in

Yangzhou and even though he knew I was taking a

photo, he did not alter his expression. Being in black

and white, the image has a timeless quality.

The photo of the bicycle in Datong is so China -

the bicycle, the broom, the cart and the wall are

all things we see daily in China. I loved the way

they randomly were arranged in this corner. But

even though they were random they still have

strong unifying forces. The color red brings the

pieces together, as does the geometry. The shine

of the new bicycle contrasts with the rusty metal

cart and the aged patina of the wall.

This photo of a wall in the

Forbidden City appeals to me

because of the rich color - the

turquoise contrasting with the

red. Embedded within those

areas of colors are a floral

pattern in the blue and cracks

from age in the red. These rich

areas then further contrast

with the weathered and worm

raw wall that has felt the

hands of generations. The

photo is a story of opulence

and decay.

I decided to recycle some of my practice

calligraphy papers so I glued them together to

form a substratum where the text was sandwiched

between layers of paper. I saw this man's photo in

a magazine and liked his weathered, worn but

complacent face. I used traditional inks and

brushes to 'draw' the man, but then I built up a

greater sense of tone in the face.

On Saturday mornings I learn traditional Chinese

painting and calligraphy. I really like this style of

painting, but it is difficult and different to western

painting. Holding the brush is different and it is

difficult to achieve a free and effortless action

without countless hours of practice.

There is far less painting or drawing experiences for me to narrative, mainly because several years before, I rarely did art. The reason why I was determined to learn drawing was that my classmates had often humiliated me because I could not draw well. Due to my anger and indomitable attitude, I wanted to prove that I was not as stupid as my classmates described. Without a priori talent on art, I could only use my diligence to compensate this. Though I had to give up drawing to concentrate on studying and other areas, I was cultivated to be quiet and patient

while doing art during those two years of learning the basic skills of art and having intensive practicing. I was so concentrated at that moment that I could settle at a place and draw for more than six hours.

I am so delighted that since then I have discovered my confidence in many small achievements. Although I was busy during my junior school time, I still did one or two practices per year to ensure my fundamental techniques. After transferring from main school to ICC, I found it a great platform for me to keep my steps in drawing and re-picking my hobby. After the intense study at the main school, I can finally relax myself then and do some art pieces. Even though now I cannot paint as good as I did before, I am still enthusiastic to do art and I have downloaded more than forty thousand artwork from the Internet throughout the past whole year. And what’s more, I try to return to my habit of musing about the entire cosmos, as it is also a quite good way to expand personal ideas of art.

In the summer vacation, we got along with five ten-year-old orphans from Yushu, Qinghai who

now live in Beijing after the earthquake. In the limited time, we helped them to be more familiar

with art by handcrafting, visiting exhibition and photo shooting.

Before meeting them, we did

not have a clue on how to treat

them adequately. But our worry

turned out to be unnecessary.

Although they came from a

different environment from ours,

they still retain simple state of

mind like normal kids.

The ability to appreciate art is what we have got by nature, regardless of age, gender

and culture. The power of art is what that can infect and touch everyone.
