SPIRIT FILLED LIFE

DRUNKENNESS

I. The Parallels of the Spirit filled life and drunkenness

(Eph 5:18) And be not drunk with wine, wherein is

excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

A. The Spirit is consumed like drink.

(Joh 7:37) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood

and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and

drink.(Joh 7:38) He that believeth on

me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of

living water.(Joh 7:39) (But this spake he of

the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet

glorified.)


B.The Spirit causes confidence

(Act 4:31) And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled

together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with

boldness.

(Eph 6:19) And for me, that utterance may be given unto me,

that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the

mystery of the gospel,

(1Jn 1:6) If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and

(Gal 5:16) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. (Gal 5:25) If we live in the

Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

A. The Spirit filled life produces a contentment

(Act 16:23-26) And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast

them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely: Who, having

received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their

feet fast in the stocks. And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and

sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that

the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands

were loosed.

(Col 3:16) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all

wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in

psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your

hearts to the Lord.


B. The Spirit filled life produces a characteristic of gratitude

(Eph 5:19-21) Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord

Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

(Act 5:40) And to him they agreed: and when they had called

the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should

not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

(Act 5:41) And they departed from the presence of the council,

rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his

name.(Act 5:42) And daily in the temple,

and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus

Christ.

(1Ti 2:1) I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers,

intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

(1Ti 2:2) For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead

a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

(1Ti 2:3) For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our

Saviour;

(Php 2:3) Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let

each esteem other better than themselves.

(Jas 3:13-18) Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits,

without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in

peace of them that make peace.
