Spirent TestCenter FX2-11AC-WAVE2-2

Spirent TestCenter FX2-11AC-WAVE2-2 is a Wave-2 FX2 test module for the N4U/N11U

chassis. Users can emulate a large number of realistic 802.11 a/n/ac clients on 5GHz frequency

band to connect with an access point via a cabled conductive or over-the-air (OTA) link. Basic

WLAN control plane and data plane features along with the advanced RFC style network traffic

and throughput performance test cases are supported over the WLAN network involving the

emulated clients and the APs under test.

The new WLAN test module consists of multiple IEEE 802.11 radios. It provides the maximum

user configurability and flexibility to emulate various IEEE 802.11ac Wave-2 MU-MIMO clients on

5GHz band. A single WLAN radio supports 802.11ac Wave-2 clients with different spatial

streams for the best realistic client emulation scenarios in either SU-MIMO or MU-MIMO.

Designed for testing WLAN network infrastructure devices, including carrier or enterprise thin

APs with controllers, consumer APs, and integrated broadband WLAN gateway, Spirent

TestCenter WLAN solutions offer the best in class traffic generation and analysis for testing

functionality, performance, and scalability.

Discontinuance Notification – FreeBSD

At the end of 2017, Spirent will discontinue automation support for FreeBSD on all Spirent

TestCenter software and hardware products. Customers are encouraged to move to one of the

supported operating systems as listed in Spirent TestCenter Software and Hardware Release

Notes, in the Operating Systems Requirements section.

VXLAN Multi-homed VTEP Emulation Across Multiple Test Ports

BPK-1310A VXLAN Emulation with EVPN Learning & BPK-1311A EVPN Emulation

In Spirent TestCenter release 4.72, the VxLAN EVPN overlay wizard now supports emulating a

VTEP multi-homed to several DUT/spine switches across multiple test ports. The wizard creates

multiple VTEP devices with the same router-id, same number of attached VM devices, and same

set of EVPN routes to emulate a single multi-homed VTEP. Those VTEP devices may have

same or different MAC address, IPv4 address and IPv4 default gateway address for the physical

interface.

To enable this feature, in the “Configure VXLAN Ports” page, select a minimum of two VXLAN

test ports. VLAN can be enabled on the VXLAN ports if more than one multi-homed VTEPs need

to be emulated per set of selected test ports. Only the configuration on the first VXLAN test port

will be used to configure the multi-homed VTEP, and the same configuration will be duplicated

across the other VXLAN test ports. Configuration on the remaining VXLAN test ports will not be

used. In the “Configure VTEP Params” page, select the checkbox “Multi-homed VTEP across

Ports” and then set the “Number of multihomed VTEPs” and “Number of Spine/Gateway” fields.

The number of multi-homed VTEPs should be set to 1, if VLAN is not enabled on the first VXLAN

test port; or, it should be set to equal or less than the number of VLANs configured on the first

VXLAN test port, if VLAN is enabled on the test port. The minimum value for the “Number

Spine/Gateway” is two. It should be set for the actual number of DUTs or Spine switches and

match the number of multi-homed VXLAN test ports. If the number of VXLAN test ports is greater

than number of Spine/Gateway count, no configuration will be created on the extra enabled

VXLAN test ports. Currently, only one “DUT per Spine/Gateway” is supported. If the “Use same

MAC/IP for multihomed VTEP interfaces” option is selected, then the same MAC and IP address

will be configured on all the VXLAN test ports for each of the emulated multi-homed VTEP. When

unchecked, then MAC and IP address will be incremented on all the VXLAN test ports for each

of the emulated multi-homed VTEP. The incremental step for the MAC and IP address can be

set in the “Configure VXLAN ports” page. If the “Use same Spine/Gateway interface for VTEPs”

option is selected, the same IPv4 default gateway address is used for all emulated multi-homed

VTEPs. When unchecked, IPv4 default gateway address will be incremented for all emulated

multi-homed VTEPs. The incremental step for the IPv4 default gateway address can be set in the

“Configure VXLAN ports” page.

BGP EVPN Address Family Graceful Restart

BPK-1311A EVPN Learning & EVPN Emulation

In Spirent TestCenter release 4.72, graceful restart is now supported for the BGP EVPN address

family. When this feature is enabled, Spirent TestCenter runs in graceful restart helper mode for

the BGP EVPN address family. When the DUT performs a graceful restart operation, Spirent

TestCenter continues forwarding traffic to the DUT, keeps the BGP session up, and assists the

restarting DUT to recover. To enable this feature, select the “Enable Graceful Restart” checkbox

on the BGP device, where AFI/Sub-AFI is set to “L2VPN/Ethernet VPN”.

VXLAN OVSDB Overlay Wizard

BPK-1310A VXLAN Emulation & BPK-1326 OVSDB Base Package

Spirent TestCenter release 4.72 introduces a new VxLAN OVSDB overlay wizard. The VxLAN

OVSDB overlay wizard adds a new “Configure OVSDB Server” page where users can specify a

list of OVSDB controllers and their ports. Users can configure the controller IP address using

“Single IP” mode and “IP list” mode. In “Single IP” mode, users can specify a single controller IP

address with an optional step value. Each of the emulated VTEP connects to a single OVSDB

controller. With “IP list” mode, users can specify a list of controller IP addresses that are

separated by comma. Each of the emulated VTEP connects to the same set of multiple OVSDB

controllers. With this new wizard, Spirent TestCenter sends local emulated VTEP, VNI, and VM

information and remote VTEP, VNI, and VM information learned from DUT to the configured

OVSB controllers.

If the OVSDB controllers are emulated by Spirent TestCenter test ports, then users can view the

local and remote VTEP/VNI/VM OVSDB information in the OVSDB controller table content.

Send VXLAN Encapsulated ARPs from Emulated VMs in Unicast & Multicast Learning Modes

BPK-1310A VXLAN Emulation with EVPN Learning

In Spirent TestCenter release 4.72, the user can now select an emulated VM device behind a

VTEP and send ARP at any time. With this feature, VM sends ARP requests to default gateway

configured for the VM. The Spirent TestCenter emulated source VTEP adds VXLAN header to

the ARP request and then flood the ARP request to all the remote VTEPs using either unicast as

in unicast learning mode or multicast as in multicast learning mode. The source VTEP learns

destination VTEP from ARP response. Sending ARP requests for emulated VMs are supported

for both unicast and multicast learning modes. To trigger the ARP, users can either right-click on

the VM device, and select the “Start ARP/ND” action, or click the “Start ARP/ND” button on the

menu bar.

IEEE 1588 Enhancement

Support for Allowing TTL Value Configuration

Spirent TestCenter release 4.72 now supports user configuration of the TTL value. As router/L3

switching devices, customers' devices will drop packets where TTL=1. In addition, PTP slave

devices can be multiple hops away via multiple Transparent Clocks in between. Therefore,

allowing a TTL value of greater than 1 is very helpful in testing such scenarios. This feature

allows the user to configure the Multicast IP TTL value of outgoing PTP packets with any value

between 1 and 255. Note that the TTL is configurable for Multicast only, and the default value of

64 is retained for Unicast.

AVB/TSN Enhancement

AVB/IEEE 1722 Traffic Wizard

Spirent TestCenter release 4.72 now has an AVB wizard that allows the user to configure AVB

protocols, as well as a combination of AVB and non-AVB traffic, on Spirent TestCenter, to test

the bandwidth reservation capabilities of the DUT in handling AVB and non-AVB traffic. The DUT

in this scenario is an AVB bridge.

Note: Currently, only 1 scenario with an AVB talker, AVB listener, and a Non-AVB device, all

connected to the bridge, is supported.
