Spellbound Mystery Sew-A-Long : Block 1
Background fabric• Cut size of background is 9-1/2” x 9-1/2”
NOTE: I always cut my background fabric to size after the
appliqué and embroidery are completed
Appliqué Layout• Cut & match up the 2 pages of the design
layout along dotted lines for a full scale placement drawing
Appliqué Templates• All templates are full scale & reversed•
Dotted lines on design layout refer to appliqué sections where that
piece lies under another piece• Appliqué in this order:
* Moon* Tree branch* Owl body* Owl head* Vest* Polka dots on
vest* Eyes - Purple section, then off white section* Owl nose
• Candy Corn* Option 1 use candy corn buttons.* Option 2
appliqué with wool starting from bottom with yellow, orange, and
off white. * Option 3 embroider with satin stitch.
• Stars* Option 1 use star buttons. * Option 2 appliqué with
yellow wool. * Option 3 embroider with either a backstitch or a
satin stitch.
• Eye pupil* 2 options - Option 1 use black buttons. Option 2
embroider with a satin stitch
Embroidery Stitch Guide• Buttonhole stitch - Moon, owl, vest,
eyes (except for pupil), tree branch, nose, and candy corn (Option
2)• Star stitch with French knot center - polka dots• Satin stitch
- Candy corn (Option 3), eye pupil (Option 2) and stars (Option 3)•
Backstitch - Words and stars (Option 3)
If you left your background untrimmed while you did the appliqué
& embroidery then trim it now to 9-1/2” x 9-1/2” using the
appliqué layout as a guide.
